I used to live in Stuttgart and never knew about this garden. What a treasure!…read more I walked to this garden from the main train station area on a very hot day. It is at an elevation, like on the hill. I went up using a lot of stairs but the other direction offers a gradual incline without stairs. I'm glad I brought water. You enter through a gate. The garden is maintained by a local community group and closes at night. There is a small lake and I even saw a little turtle by the water. There is an indoor structure but it was locked when I visited. You can walk around and see the ambiance and there is an upper part with a view of the city. There were two people making out when I walked up to see the view. So that's pleasant. This garden is a nice place to take a break in the city and look at the view over the city. There's not much shade except for under the outdoor structure. If you want to sit there are mostly rocks. I recommend a visit if you want a peaceful, not often visited break from the hustle of Stuttgart.

Very close to Killesberg and in the heart of downtown! We decided to head down to Killesberg which is another awesome park in its own. Then headed to Rohtelbul. Great way to spend the day with the family. Germany is beautiful

The Killesberg Park (Höhenpark Killesberg) is an urban public park of 123 acres in Stuttgart,…read moreGermany. It is just north of the state capital. The park dates back to the horticultural show of 1939. Before the show, a large area of the park had been a quarry. It was transformed into a park with exhibition sites for the show, and has remained hosting horticultural events on a regular basis. Since its opening, the park has been home to the 15-inch narrow-gauge Killesberg Railway. In the summer months, visitors can see two diesel and two steam locomotives, which have been fixtures in the park since 1950. The horticultural show of 1939 saw the opening of the railway when two borrowed steam engines from Leipzig traversed a short stretch of track. Unfortunately, it was not in operation during our recent visit. Another prominent structure in this park is the Killesberg Tower (Killesbergturm) which is a 40.4 meter high observation tower with four varying height decks overlooking the park completed in 2001. It was designed using cable-stayed bridge technology. There also is a farm animals area with chickens, donkeys, llamas and alpacas, and flamingo pond nearby.

Nowadays vigils are held every year, remembering the victims who lost their lives during the war. The middle of the park holds a tower that can be climbed. I have a fear of heights and only made it halfway up. Be aware- the. higher you climb up the more the tower swings. However- the view is breathtaking and I would recommend going up.
