They don't have silly things like saunas and fruitbars and bla bla bla. You don't go to the gym to make use of its cafe and have a smoothie while you read the paper at one of their tables! NO! You go there to get RIPPED.. or fit. Basic Fit gyms are without bells and whistles! You can pay the least by paying for the whole year upfront, or pay a tad more and do it monthly (automatic payments) with a one year contract, or pay even a bit more than that to pay monthly without a contract, at all. These are the only three options you have the rest is all-in. They even allow you to lend your card to someone else! As long as you're not working out together at the same time. One card per person at a time. You can, however, invite someone to workout at any Basic Fit for a week at no charge to either of you as an introduction. I don't live anywhere near this particular gym but I go here now and again anyway because, a) I can, and b) my workout buddy goes here. About the equipment: I'm pretty noobish at weightlifting as I've always found it boring (but I'm trying to change that perspective). I'm more of an adventure/violent sport kind of guy. What I do know is that they pretty much have all the equipment you need for a serious get-ripped workout and that's the most important thing about this particular Basic Fit. They also have a lot of cardio machines pointed towards some big screens. Most weights are labeled with both lbs and kg. It has separate sex changing rooms and showers, it has toilets, and it has lockers at the entrance that you can use with your own padlock. That's it. So BASICally all you need to get your workout and to get FIT. Basic Fit!
Big place, lots of cardio with decent amount weight training equipment in there as well…read more As with the chain, it is not expensive. There is a monthly contract possibly now, so you don't have to unwillingly get in to one year lock-in. Parking is free and there is ample parking space available. Mornings after 09:00 mostly occupied by seniors. Gets somewhat quiet around noon & early afternoon. Evenings are kind of busy mostly. After 20:30, starts to get kind of free again. But you can always manage to find your space, may be you might have to wait couple of minutes when it is really busy but that is not always. There also a number of group classes / sessions going on, haven't tried them yet, Gym floor and equipment are sufficiently neat and clean. There are some old looking cardio equipment, they could be swapped for shiny new ones. Lot of lockers are available but you should bring your own lock or purchase one at the reception for a small fee. Changing room is big enough. There are couple of toilets and showers and a small dry sauna. Toilets are neat..most of the time. No idea on shower rooms. Shower costs 50 cents. Haven't been inside the dry sauna, looks really small but fine from outside. Perfect for beginners and occasional gym training. There are also the muscle marys who appear regularly. So really for everybody.

This is not my favorite health city location but it certainly has all the amenities you could want…read more The squash courts are the best part of this location for me. There are's also a lot of indoor tennis courts which I have seen very busy. I am not the heaviest weightlifter in the room but when I do go to use the weights there is not a lot of variety to choose from. I have been here with a colleague before who is quite a big guy and he could not find that heavy enough wait for certain exercises. There are also a lot of classes, from spinning to aerobics. You see a lot of people doing those. Overall it is a good location and for me it is on the way home from work which is nice.

The only reason I got a membership at this gym is that at the time (haven't checked recently) it…read morewas by far the cheapest with the best equipment. Gym memberships running up to 100+ Euro are madness to me. This price point is precisely, of course, the gym's weakness. The men's locker room lacks ventilation to such a degree that I often find it impossible to breath the first minutes after I arrive. I try to get in and out of the locker room as quickly as possible. Shower at home. The gym area itself is spacious and I can't think of any piece of equipment that I would want them to add. Also the equipment is in good condition. There are a few distinct area's. Running mills looking out over the Amsterdam Ringroad (the building bridges the Ringroad A10), free weights, stationary bikes area and resistance machines area. For the price I think the actual gym area is good value. Fortunately I have the luxury of going at any time of the day so over the course of three years I have found my 'sweet spot' when it's not too early for me and the first rush hour of the gym has already finished so it's not at all busy and I have an hour to do my stuff before the next rush starts. The members range from 'just out of prison' to students, from young to old, fat to thin and super fit. It's also a cross section of the population of the surrounding neighbourhood(s). If they would manage to get the locker room situation solved, I would give this gym a much higher rating.
6 'spinning' bikes. Also 6 regular stationary bikes and elliptical cross trainers available in addition to the running mills.
View from the running mills. Watching the traffic pass underneath the building.
The obligatory pic of the dumbbells. Only two or three times a day you'll find them sorted.
Terrific experience at UP so far. We just started shifting back to the gym after outdoor workouts…read more In 10 weeks I've lost about 10% body fat. But more importantly, I've been feeling good in my body again - more energetic, stronger, mobile, confident. The training team really looks after all the little details and you can literally see the improvement day by day. I've done lots of training programs previously and ended up with little results or injuries; the program at UP is a proven approach and it's awesome to see such rapid change. I never thought a six pack would be something I'd achieve but in fact its just a few weeks away!

We don't care about being your friend - that's a bonus, that's nice to have. Our trainers don't have hyphenated careers (i.e. actors-models-dancers-trainers), their sole focus is to help clients achieve results. They all work full-time for us and don't get involved in anything else that could distract them from their overarching goal of maximising the client's return on their investment of time and money. That's why our private gyms are just for our clients. We are not for everyone. We are only for those people who want to make a commitment to changing their bodies. We get results, plain and simple. In the land of the fitness gimmick, you may not believe all our sensational before-and-afters, in which case you'll have to believe in grand conspiracies because we've literally hundreds of photos and videos to choose from - all from people who train for three weeks or more.
