Not long after they took it into the repair bay, the tech came in and told me I have not only a screw in that tire but also a nail! The screw hole they could patch, but the nail hole was too close to the edge to patch. And since my car is AWD, I have to replace not just the damaged tire but all four tires! I have a healthy amount of skepticism about car repair, so I asked to see where the nail was located in the tire. It was close to the edge but definitely not in the sidewall! I asked if we could just *try* a repair, got the standard "Walmart policy"spiel, blah blah blah. At this point a more experienced employee joined us and said we could ask the manager (who couldn't have been nicer) to make an exception! The manager took a look at the tire, patiently explained how a patch works, and said the repair may or may not work, but if I wanted to try it we could! The more experienced tire guy (I wish I'd caught his name -- 30 years of repairing tires!) did the repair, and it's perfect! So instead of paying $1,000 + for new tires, I paid $30 + tax for two repairs! And as long as the same Manager is there, Walmart Auto Center on King's Highway, Port Charlotte has earned my loyalty!
