The night I was there it had DJ's, but I believe they have live music too on other nights. The area is filled with other great spots and restaurants. So you could grab a bite elsewhere and then head here to dance the night away.

Yes, HiFi -it's one of my favourite places to bust out my best grooves. (I'm not suggesting they're good, but I'm sure they're a spectacle.) I'd not been back for some time, so when the opportunity arose this weekend, I couldn't turn it down. As I was arriving, some of my friends had left, and in some respects I can see why. It was absolutely heaving, and of course the music was incredibly loud, as standard. It's difficult, as I was certainly getting the rage whilst trying to make my way to the toilets, or the bar -it's one thing for a venue to be heaving (this is fine, and can elevate the fun), but it's entirely another when you're battered and shoved beyond belief. Perhaps it was because it was so late, and so folk were drunk, but there were rather a lot of pushy people and manners had almost entirely left the building. It costs nothing to say 'excuse me'! Anyway, rant over. That being said, once I managed to wade to the bar, things got a lot better. The chap who served me was lovely and friendly, and beer in hand, I managed to find a spot with my comrades where we could dance with abandon. Top tip - the steps by the stage seemed to be the most spacious throughout the evening! And that brings me to the music. It's always utterly fantastic - for all the funk, soul and reggae that you could want, this is the place to come. I've not danced for a solid few hours in quite a while, and can absolutely say that it was fantastic, and in spite of the crowds I'm hoping to come back again soon. Drinks wise, I didn't really check out all the options, but there's a fairly decent range to suit most tastes. Price wise it was £4 in at about 1am, perhaps more earlier on, and the drinks are standard -expect to pay about £3+ per drink. I agree with Ben, the door staff are quite the jobsworths, though this keeps out the riff raff, for which I'm grateful! (And, they are friendly, don't get me wrong.) The toilets were in a bit of a poor state, but having been in much worse, it's not all that bad. Essentially, the biggest draw is of course the fantastic DJs, live music and comedy at their other regular events, friendly staff and having a right old dance. Highly recommended for a proper night of fun. Just be patient with the crowds!

The Outlaws cafe: By day, this artfully decorated space defines relaxed. It's light and airy, given the huge windows, and the tables are spaciously laid out for groups, solo coffee drinkers, and couplets to arrange themselves. There are 60s style tables and chairs, low standing long wooden blocks, comfy cushioned benching, and groovy bar stools. Top tip: if you've a laptop, there are electric outlets abound to plug in, and naturally, free wifi. The back wall displays plentiful curious prints and paintings, there's wallpaper with pineapples on it, and even a tiled bit of wall that kids are welcomed to deface - Outlaws will even supply the pens. Delightful phrases such as 'Darwin Rules' and 'it's really hot today!' currently decorate the wall. To eat and drink, you have an array of hot drinks (the usual suspects) and a curious menu, offering up toasted sandwiches, home made stew, sushi (from Sushiboy) and salads. If you're more into cake, the bar has a myriad of gooey goodness. My personal recommendation is the spongy raspberry offering, whose name I do not know. Get involved in a bit of that, with an Americano on the side, and you'll be a happy chap. Bored? No probs. They've all the board games you could want to while away a few hours. And don't even get me started on how cool the music is - these guys know their chill out. (I realise it's not to everyone's taste, but I'm a fan!) Also, try the home made stew, it's warming and awesome. One last thing - ask about the magic till, if you've a small child with you. They'll love it. The Outlaws bar: By night, this place transforms into a cosy hub of creativity, music and cool. They've a range of regular events that are most worth checking out, more notably, their DJ nights. Their Baleraric social is something to put in the diary, with world famous DJs performing fantastic sets, and of course -you can enjoy regular evenings of excellent music from Joe's Bakery and co. The monthly performance poetry night, Sticks And Stones, is another awesome event to get booked in. Expect a host of wordly musings from the open mic-ers, waxing lyrical in hip-hop style, thoughtful abandon, and hilarious commentary. Every month features a highly regarded poet, and now I've been lucky enough to have seen Mark Grist in the flesh. The drinks are ultra cool, with a select few cocktails and spirits on offer, alongside Brooklyn Lager and Estrella on draft, Brewdog, Anchor Steam, Belle Rose and more in bottles, and a varied amount of guest beers appearing depending on the season. Prices, of course, are a little higher with such premium offerings - but, this isn't a complaint as such. I like good beer, if possible, excellent beer. I don't expect to get that for £2.50. In the evening, when the place is full, there's an interesting effect where the windows steam up - even that is cool, as it feels like you're enveloped in a secret blanket of awesome. So, there you have it. Most of the things I love, rolled into one great big hug of a hang out. Wifi and power, check. Good coffee and lush cake, check. A range of good food for lunch, check. High end beers, check. Interesting and artful events, check. Quirky vintage décor, check. Amazing music, check. Good people? Don't even doubt it for a second.

The bar is small but spacious, mirrors complimenting the decor along with disco balls and bottle-storage globes dotted about the room. The seating is comfy to lounge upon, and the windows make the most of the limited light stolen by the NCP car park opposite. The Yacht Club has an extensive selection of drinks, ranging from fruity teas to more spirits I've ever seen crammed on a shelf; apart from one snag. As a whisky drinker, I asked if they had Jack Daniels Honey Whisky in, and the bartender was puzzled, offering a cheeky quip of, "we have Jack Daniels, and honey?". The bartenders are charming lads who keep the place clean and tidy while retaining the laid-back atmosphere - one of them had Facebook open on his laptop behind the bar! The drinks are kind of pricey, but you would expect it from bars of the type. The food is great too - I had a sandwich and it was the best I've had in Leeds; soft bread and great quality cheese resting on a crisp salad. The only bad thing about the place is the bartender from next door's Rebel Pin-Up who storms through the bar from time to time with a look of pure anger on his face, and I promised that I wouldn't bring the Society of Young Publishers into this review! Great place!

A lot of the original features have been preserved in the building and its lovely to get a venue at the Hunslet end of town with such grandeur! So, in to the Tetley kitchen we ventured for lunch! I hope that they sort out the little 'flaws' such as too many staff but no-one doing much, not being able to have a tab unless you're eating in the restaurant and the confusion over which is the 'correct' entrance! Anyway, they have a good selection of drinks both alcoholic & non-alcoholic so we purchased and had a look at the menu which has slight variations depending on if you sit in the 'bar area' or the restaurant. As there wasn't much available space in the bar we went for the quieter option and got a table in the restaurant. The setting is a mix of old & new. Quite simple and works well. The menu offers a good mix of dishes. My dining companion ordered mushrooms on toast followed by fish & chips and I ordered Homity pie (for something a bit different) The mushrooms on toast went down well, the portion was a bit small though. A mixture of mushrooms in a creamy sauce on sourdough toast- it didn't hang around long! The mains took a little while to come out and when they did we both had a little disappointment. The peas on the fish and chips were stone cold! the fish & chips were lovely but this took the shine off really. The Homity pie I was expecting to be with a 'pie' crust and it wasn't! It was basically mash potato, leeks which were on the bitter side and a nice undertone of cheese. I'd asked for a side of chips so it was a spud overload! I would go again, possibly not order the same food, and be tempted to just sit in the bar. I can see the potential and what they're tryig to achieve but it needs a bit more 'polish'.

It's just over the river from the central area of Leeds. There's a couple of sculpture pieces outside, which I liked. The galleries are upstairs, in the old boardrooms and directors offices, which are fine wood panelled rooms - not your traditional gallery space. There's maybe 9 rooms, of which half have Tetley related art, and the other half more contemporary pieces. The guide is pretty handy, and there's an attendant around to make sure you don't stand on the floor based art, which you could easily do if you're distracted by your mobile figuring out your day lalala. It didn't take me that long to go round it. Probably just longer than walking there. It was worth it, but I think perhaps a few more pieces are needed. I didn't venture into the bar, but it felt homely with large leather chesterfields to relax on, and good music playing on the jukebox, a decent range of food, and a display of A LOT of old Tetley beer bottles. Will be interesting to see how it evolves.
