My 89-year-old dad has been a patient of Dr. Banks for years. For reasons that are still unclear,…read morethe process of getting a referral to see a specialist dragged on for weeks. I never knew there was actually a process involved for getting a referral, as in my experience with primary care physicians over the years, the process was simply a matter of receiving a referral from the receptionist on my way out the door. So, of course, I thought to myself, dad's 89 and hearing impaired. Maybe he misunderstood. When I floated this to him, he said, "I can't hear, but I'm not brain-dead," or something to that effect. So, I called the office and spoke to one of the receptionists who seemed irritated from the jump, as if I were a spammer selling car warranties instead of trying to get a specialist referral for my father. In a tone that would make a DMV employee gasp, she explained that Banks needed to submit a referral request into the system - a process that could take up to 10 days. I'm thinking, who's their IT guy, Fred Flintstone? Are we living in the Jurassic period? What system are they using? The Matrix? It had already been about a week since his visit. After 30 seconds of radio silence, give or take, save for the clacking sounds of a keyboard and annoyed breathing, she said he had an appointment scheduled for the following week and hung up without the usual "is there anything else I can help you with," or, "enjoy the rest of your day," banalities. When I told my dad he had an appointment scheduled for the following week, he said it was with a different specialist. I called back and this time, another receptionist answered the phone. This one was a bit more pleasant, but it's all relative. Guzzling colonoscopy prep is more pleasant than drinking Liquid Drano. As far as being helpful, it's comparing oranges to apples. Banks never responded to a text I sent, which is totally understandable, since that is typically the responsibility of the receptionist. If I were going to suggest cost-cutting measures for a leaner operation, I would recommend replacing both receptionists with artificial rubber trees. My dad eventually went to an urgent care where he was prescribed antibiotics and given a referral for a specialist.

He wanted me to come back again and fill out more paperwork & speak with "specialist" before he would finish my papers. He also wanted extra money for flower. I thought it was strange they asked for my insurance paperwork & ran off my information when my insurance will not pay for it. His office never answers the phone & they're only at this location once a month. Not professional at all. Found a new doctor that was easy & completed everything I needed within 30 mins. Oh, and I didn't have to pay extra for flower!

My former doctor relocated to Nevada, so my wife and I had to find a new physician. Friends…read morerecommended Dr. Ros and we couldn't be happier. We both had appointments this morning: she at 9:20 to review labs and my initial consult at 11:20. We went together since we have a single car and live on Okaloosa Island. The receptionist met us with a smile and was able to combine our two appointments into a single meeting with Dr. Ros. Talk about customer service!!! Completely eliminated a 2-hour wait for me. Good on ya, Marilyn! Dr. Ros impressed both of us with his caring attitude, professionalism and willingness to spend the time with us necessary to answer our questions and leave us feeling great about our decision to make him our primary physician. We both wholeheartedly endorse Dr. Gustavo Ros for anyone needing an internist.
