Called twice after 4 am for my mother's passing and was hung up on both times. I went with another funeral home.

Unfortunately, when a loved one dies, we only have one opportunity to find reputable funeral…read moreservices. We chose unwisely. My father passed a few weeks ago and my family called Horizon Funeral Home. Since my dad wanted to be cremated, we needed a crematorium, prayer cards, and help publishing his obituary. When the owner, Frank Ryan, first arrived at my mother's home, he seemed friendly, understanding, and fully capable of meeting our needs. Unfortunately, almost as soon as he cashed her check, the problems began. We were informed that Dad's ashes would not be ready for two weeks -- long past our memorial services. Then, when the ashes were ready, Frank asked my mother to drive the 30 minutes to his funeral home to pick them up. Although he did eventually concede to deliver the ashes, his employee dropped them at the door in a cardboard box inside of a shopping bag. Because Frank is unfamiliar with the computer software used by his employees to create the prayer cards, it took three days of emails to get accurate proofs. In fact, the cards were not printed until the afternoon before the memorial service -- and even then, I was forced to interrupt a family luncheon and commandeer the restaurant's computer to approve the final layout. Frank told me that, without that approval, we would have no prayer cards. As for the obituaries, although Frank said he called the newspapers we had requested, we were forced to followup with the papers ourselves in order to pay for the space and to be sure the obituaries ran in time for the services. One of the main reasons you engage a funeral director is for assistance at what might be one of the most difficult times in your life. Frank Ryan and Horizon Funeral Home did not help, and, in fact, made those few days even more stressful. I hope that the readers of this review will spread the word, because I really don't want others to suffer through this same experience.

And, after all that, Frank is still requesting that we pay the extra $140 for the prayer cards…read morebecause the cards we ultimately purchased were more money than the cards our mom had thought she wanted. I would have thought that he would have just written that off because of all of our frustration, but I guess not.

We, the family and friends, were very pleased with both services (even with COVID bring an issue with Margie's service and entombment). I am very sorry for the delay in my thanks to your staff for a job well done. I have visited on several occasions, and the only upsetting issue was the disappearance of the angel charms I leave on each trip, which was a promise to my sister, Margie, after she began her wishes with her husband's loss. I always come prepared with an angel, knowing the one last left will not be there. If you have any suggestions, they would be appreciated. I was just there a couple of weeks ago. While I am addressing you, I was checking my received phone calls a couple of days ago. A gentleman had sent a message that there is a booklet if some kind that was apparently left behind after Margie's entombment giving info about her life that he thought we would like to have. Yes, I would be grateful. If you can tell me when it can be picked up, I will make arrangements for a ride down there to pick it up. I, like Margie, am suffering with Alzheimer's, so I know longer take any chances driving. Thank all the staff who were so very helpful with both services. Please let me know the best time and location to pick up the booklet. Thank you.

My husband and I made our funeral pre- arrangements this week with National Cremation & Burial…read moreSociety. After much discussion, investigation and meeting with several organizations (family owned as well as national), we are very pleased with our decision. We met with Advisor Lacey Shook, several times. Lacey patiently & thoroughly answered all our questions and was wonderful to work with in making our arrangements. The process was straightforward, the price was competitive and covered everything we had hoped. If you are contemplating the decision for pre-arrangement, we highly recommend contacting Lacey. She will guide you through the process, whilst making the experience comforting and reassuring.

(239) 995-1113 Service: Some time ago, my wife and I decided that in order to minimize angst and stress on each other and our daughter, that we would do the right thing and pre-arrange all our final needs and plans while we had clear heads, unburdened by sense of loss and grief. We completed the process with Melissa, a wonderful professional, whose courtesy left us with no unanswered questions. Soon after, by UPS, two beautifully boxed packages arrived. Each contained a helpful assortment of items including a redwood-like container (urn), as well as an excellent book with planning details. Everything was so well organized. If one of us passes away in another state or even overseas, all arrangements to care for the involved are covered, to return that individual back home. Quality: It's not easy to convey the importance of their quality every step of the way. During our session with Melissa, licensed funeral director Ann introduced herself, which was a nice moment. Value: Everyone has to make up their mind at some point regarding these decisions. To leave these difficult plans to your heirs and your loved ones in my opinion is not the best option. Simply making sure that your plans and wishes are carried out entirely as you want them to be carried out,is a gift; to leave these matters to your family in a time of grief can be avoided by preplanning. Summary: While difficult, the step you take in advance of the actual need is a kind act and will be highly valued by those you spare from making tough decisions in the future. Highly recommended.
