Membership has its benefits! Lead Valley offers a ton of space with 50 yard berms, sporting clay stations, a range course and an archery field. Lead Valley also offers a camping area and a shop for members to purchase ammo, targets and gear. Not only do the fine folks at LV focus on safety but their family friendly environment was created to accommodate shooters of all levels. The trap area is laid out like a semicircle so that all shots fall into a spot to make recovery a lot easier. LV is also very member centric, offering sporting clay events, bowling pin league and holding an annual member appreciation picnic filled with demos and competitions (soda can challenge was fun!). Without question I will continue to renew my membership, despite the distance (Deer Trail is a bit of a drive but has great range access). read more

As far as ranges go, this one's a peach. I suppose I should say something fierce and manly, but the reality is this place is friendly and comfortable. I was lucky enough to come on a light day in early March so the attendance was very low. My only concern is that with the setup of the benches on the open ranges, a heavy day could get sticky with people potentially shooting elbow to elbow. This is speculation on my part however. What I can say for sure is that they have private lanes. Both narrow and wide lanes with the wide lanes allowing for move-and-shoot practice. They have 50 and 100 yard ranges with setups for 25 yards on the 50 and 50 yards on the 100. They are in the process of cutting a 50 yard range as well. Lead Valley also has a variety of trap fields with a 5 stand trap field for competitive game group shooting. Other niceties include a small store with accessories (holsters, apparel, etc.) as well as targets. Target stands can be rented for soft targets and a range of metal targets can also be rented. Range time is affordable, however a membership (or a member accompanying you) is required to use the range. read more

It's not that they don't try at this range to make this world class. I love the private berms and how they keep developing the shotgun side of the range. But there are a few things that will keep me from renewing my membership (4 years) this year. 1. The 500 yard rifle range. This has been an ongoing saga ever since I joined, and the thing still hasn't been built. I'd be happy and if they gave up on all 500 yards and just opened a 200 yd. range but that's not in the cards. I suspect that when I look back in 10 years the range will still be incomplete. 2. The weather. This range is on the open plains, which means that it is rare that a stiff breeze isn't blowing. A clear sign of this is when you arrive at the range - the flags on the flagpole at the entrance are often flapping and tattered due to the wind. This means that every trip to the range includes a thorough cleaning of your bags, vehicle, guns, ammo, kids, etc. from all the dust and sand that blows into all your stuff. 3. The distance. They advertised (at least at one time) that this range is in Byers. It is not. Once you get to Byers or Deer Trail, you have another 17 miles to go. From my home in the Denver area, it is a 1.25 hour trip (2.5 hours round trip). So going out for a quick morning of shooting isn't possible unless you want to shoot for 5 minutes. read more

I've been a member for 3 years. I love the range but it is so darn far away. It takes me an hour and 1/2 to get there so I don't make it as often as I would like. I really like the owner and his family who runs the range. I also appreciate it that this far I haven't seen any unsafe shooters on the range. Wish I could be there every weekend. read more
