Fine food overall. Got a table reserved for two even it was 2 hours away from dinner opening time--so lucked out on that. Noticed the staff to be grumpy but that may be just because of the chilly weather outside and the poor heating inside.

Basic French bistro fare.

A bare bones bistro featuring shelves full of organic/biodynamic French wines. The kitchen pumps out the simplest of dishes. Reservation is essential, as this place gets packed, especially, on weekends. I visited for lunch, and enjoyed the experience. That said, I found the service to be, well, a little difficult in that only Parisian kind of way. If you don't speak French, get ready for some attitude here, or, a lengthy delay getting any type of wine served on time, et cetera. (At one point, I was just about to get up from my table, grab any red bottle I could find on the library walls of wine around me, and bring it to any server to open for me!) All things considered, I'd still go back, as this place has a lot of character.

Well, it's a wine bar in Paris - how bad could it be? I got very lucky. My friend lives there and *she* knows a wine guy and *he* said, this is the place to go and boy was he ever right! We had the most amazing wine and food there. I will post a picture of what I had - kind of a beef stew over noodles. I think we had about five different wines. You would never know it to look at this place that it's also a killer restaurant. What was funny was that one of the wines was bad. Our wine guy sniffed it out. All of a sudden, the waiters, the owner, everyone was involved. C'est catastrophe! :) Anyway, they made a big fuss over us after that and we got even more wines! The cheese course is not be missed either. If you are in this area of Paris, definitely check it out. And a bonus for SoCal me - no smoking!

More like 3.5 stars. Le Verre Volé (The Stolen Glass) is a nice little unpretentious bistro with inventive cuisine. It's located near the Saint-Martin canal, along which it is always a good idea to take a digestive stroll after a good meal. Just don't lean too close if you had one (stolen?) glass too many. If you have still room you could also have a dessert at nearby Du Pain et des Idées, one of the best bakeries in Paris. But that would work only for lunch. Prices are reasonable: 2 starters, 2 entrées, 1 dessert and 4 (smallish) glasses of wine for Eu 100, tax and tip included = Not bad for Paris. The starters were very original. Mine was a very fresh and creamy ball of mozzarella with thin slices of duck breast and orange segments (sounds weird, but surprisingly, it worked). Hers was a roasted pigeon with sweet potato purée (nice, also with an orange-y flavor). Our entrées were: roasted lamb on a bed of bulgur and green peas, with a yogurt-mint sauce (well executed); and a roasted chicken with mash and green salad (so-so: great rich mash but the chicken was just OK, not great). The dessert was a custard tart with a spoonful of strawberries and raspberries on top. Tiny slice but we were pretty full by then, so it was enough. Service was affable but could have been more attentive (very very casual). All the staff speak (broken) English, and they have menus in English. Almost all patrons in the restaurant were not French, so they are used to it. The only negatives were (1) sad, tired decor, with 2 small cramped rooms indoor which get uncomfortably hot as soon as the outside temperature goes beyond 77 F; (2) we were underwhelmed by 3 out of 4 wines by the glass we tried. Overall, I am not sure that they are worth coming back, given that there are over a dozen casual fine dining restaurants that are better in Paris.

The wine they recommended for us....GOT US DRUNK!

Hole in the wall with funky toons when you walk in but mind blowing food and wine hangover when you walk out! This place rocks. Their menu changes everyday but you have to make reservations so it's sort of a crap shoot, but I have to tell you my chef boyfriend and I ate there twice on our short visit to Paris and both times they did not disappoint. Heads up, these guys are serious about their wine. There isn't a list as they will recommend a wine for you based on what you order from their short, delicious, seasonal menu. They have a menu in English but don't be fooled, everything here is authentic and amazing! The restaurant is tight and all of the chairs are mismatched, but if you're from a big city this won't deter you. If you are staying in the Canal St. Martin area, VISIT THIS PLACE!

Food was phenomenal! Limited and ever changing menu. Lots of characters and a really cozy place for lunch and dinner.

Perhaps the bar used to share the kitchen with the restaurant upstairs, but this did not appear to be the case during our visit in September 2016. My husband, sister and I visited Verjus with the hopes of enjoying a bottle or two of wine as well as some heavy tapas. When I mentioned seeing the tapas menu the bartender got confused and said they only offer a small selection of cheese and charcuterie at the bar, but nothing cooked. We attempted to make a reservation at the restaurant upstairs, but unfortunately they were booked solid. We each ordered a glass of wine and split several plates of prosciutto and cheese at the bar. Everything was nice, but we were looking for dinner and the bar was a bit warmer than I would have preferred so after we finished our wine and cheese we ventured off elsewhere. This tiny wine bar is very charming spot to grab a glass of wine, but don't expect to find any tapas here.

Call in advance to make dinner reservations because we did not and the only opening was at 9:45pm. So we opted for the wine bar downstairs, which serves tapas. At first I was a little bummed about not being able to dine at the restaurant upstairs, but the wine bar was FANTASTIC! Here's what we ordered, with the best being at the top of the list. 1. The GNOCCHI was to die for...the pieces were small and ever-so-slightly crispy on the outside. 2. The SPICY FRIED CHICKEN (yes, we order manfood staples when my bf is with me) was so juicy on the inside yet crispy on the outside. The chicken was bursting with flavor. 3. The FLANK STEAK with CHIMICHURRI sauce was surprisingly tender and flavorful. 4. We also had the CELERY ROOT GYOZA. This was hands down the best food that we had in Paris. I can only imagine what the upstairs restaurant serves! The bartender was super cool and was helpful in recommending wine pairings with our food. She poured samples to make sure that we were happy with our wine selections. She also speaks perfectly good English if you're wondering! Thank you yelp for helping us pick out a fantastic restaurant to end our week in Paris. Merci beaucoup!

So the little red door has a cute red door but the bouncer lets you in through another door (novelty observed haha). The man takes your jacket and umbrella (what a gentleman!) and sat us on the second floor. While the space between the couch and the seats were rather small, we were able to manage. I got the permaculture and resilience. The resilience is a club favorite and my favorite too! The way the sorghum, pineapple sage (syrup), pasquet cognac, and savanna rum all tied together was a blessing. I was going to get a third but I was tipsy by my second drink. My first drink was the permaculture and while I was considered it would be strong, it didn't seem strong to me. I love clarified dairy in alcohol so this was a win in my book. It consists of chestnut, butter, wakaze umeshu, avallen Calvados. The bar let's you stay for an hour but if you sit elsewhere, you can stay as long as you want. 5 stars and I hope to come back someday!

What a great find!…read more This bar doesn't look like much from the outisde but once you walk in, its super cool and full of character. The bar staff was extremely friendly and educated us on the history of the bar. Both bartenders spoke english and were from United States. It was explained to us that Lulu White was a brothel madam, that was concidered to have more power than the mayor of New Orleans during the late 1800s. Her brothel contained a "Blue Book" that allowed patrons to chose their companion via photos. The Lulu White bar, took this concept and allows you to chose your drink according to the individuals photographed in the "Blue book". We were told the individuals listed in the book change about every 6 months but the Lulu White drinks remains constant. I tried the Lulu White: Altos Anejo Tequila, Plymouth Gin, Genepi, Absentroux, and Cardamon noir. It came in a elegant beautiful glass and It tasted like a dry martini with a licorice flavor from the absinthe. This was definitley a drink you sip on to enjoy. The décor of the bar, resembled historical New Orleans with its dim lighting and elegant décor and half moon booth seating. This was a great surprise, and I recomment anyone to stop by and check it out!

Not sure if the ensemble is there every weekend, but they made a great trio. I'd visit when/if in Pigalle again.
