I always eat at this small, local, totally authentic cafe whenever I stay in Bercy. Located away…read morefrom the touristy (and higher priced) venues, the chalkboard menu changes every time. Since I don't speak French, I rely on the friendly waitress or owner (cook) to tell me what to order and pair a bottle of wine. They have never steered me wrong, although they keep trying to get me to eat what I believe is the boiled cranium of some farm animal (apparently a traditional French dish). The Ef Coe Cut is a must as an appetizer...basically egg in a bowl with meat & mushroom sauce. Like many French restaurants, they close between lunch & dinner. If you arrive before 19:30, you may have to sit at the bar until they start serving dinner. If you arrive too late, you may not get a seat (there aren't many).

What a gem!!! Thank goodness for Yelp for steering us over to this amazing, wonderful, cute,…read moredelicious cafe that was 1 block from our hotel (but we never would have passed by without Yelp). We stayed in Bercy, so after a looooong 24+ hours of travel on planes trains and automobiles and checking in to our hotel, we were starving and headed straight here. We got here just before the lunch rush and easily got a table at around 12:30 (at about 1:00 people were being turned away). They did not really speak English here and I do not really speak French, but we made it work. The husband and I both had the prix fixe.... carrot soup, bread, wine, and I had the deer (I think....) in red wine sauce and he had pork of some sort over pasta in a white wine sauce. The carrot soup was possibly the best thing I tasted in Paris.... it was so flavorful, perfectly spiced, and fresh tasting..... It was wonderful. I did not leave one drop in the cup. The white wine paired well with it and tasted fantastic. My deer was very tender and the sauce was good... it came with a small cocotte of potatoes, which were tasty, but , unfortunately for me, the husband's pork/white wine sauce was better than my food. That sauce.... ohhhh that sauce was unlike anything I have ever tasted.... it was so good. I sopped it all up with bread, calories be damned! We had all of this for about 40 euro and it was worth every cent. If you are in the neighborhood, be sure to check this place out!

They were happy to help us even though we spoke no French beyond "merci". They helped us with the wine selection and getting our food. We had the escargot, which was amazing! Definitely get it. Also, the beef tartare was the best we had during our time in Paris. During the entire meal, the waiters didn't stop moving through the restaurant, making sure everyone was well taken care-of. We definitely got the feeling that the is a neighborhood bistro that we happened to walk into. If we are ever in the neighborhood again, go and eat here. Also, don't know why this is tagged closed. Just ate there....

There are a plentiful amount of tables, but only one or maybe two waiters, but don't worry, they get to you quickly to take your order and O was impressed at how quickly the food arrived after ordering. The four in our group all loved our food, which ranged from the herring in oil, kids burgers, chicken with cream sauce, salad or a side of green beans. They were all great. We were excited to recognize locals eating here. It was a great lunch and I topped it off with an espresso to help me adjust from the time difference for my trip and couldn't recommend this place any more.

First off, the restaurant is open very late which is great for any night owls. The restaurant owner also is fluent in English. foie gras poele - This was pan-fried foie gras (duck liver) in a chestnut soup. The soup was creamy and delicious and the foie gras was unbelievably rich. This was a very rich and heavy course. Filet de boeuf - This was a nice filet of beef with foie gras sauce and came with a side of potato fries. This was incredibly delicious and cooked just as I had ordered (medium rare). The included fries were quite generously piled on. Tarte Tatin - This is a caramelized apple pie with sour cream. The pie was sweet and soft and the sour cream added some sharpness and tartness to the mix. I personally did not like this as much I had thought I would. The pie was extremely sweet which would make the sour cream an ideal complement but the sour cream's tartness was too strong. Creme brulee - Deliciously made and visually delectable. I thought it was a little small but this could be the side effect of how good it was.
