The day France won the 2018 FIFA World Cup, we wandered around Angers looking for a "quieter" place…read moreto eat, since the entire city was overrun by revellers. We found Le Punjab in a little side street and were pleasantly surprised. The food is a mix of Pakistani/Indian, made to cater to the Western palate, which is to say that the butter chicken is good, the biryani so so, the naans are excellent and don't forget to order the Mango Lassi. It comes in a little pitcher that 3 ppl can easily drink from. Also, the daal. So so good. We were a large party so ordered a few Tandoori Mix Platters that came with plenty of grill items. What I really liked about this place was their quick and helpful service. The staff was present without being hovering and they had good suggestions to offer about the menu.

The view that simple Indian food is somehow rare and exotic leads me to think these folks believe Le Punjab doesn't make marginal and over-priced food. It does. The onion bhajee was made (or more likely purchased frozen), then heated--marginally and served Luke warm. The naan was also prepped yesterday and then laid in a pan long enough to lose its chill and melt enough butter to make it wet and sloppy. In any case neither dish had anything crispy going for it. One plat looked as if it had been made with real shrimp and put in a jarred sauce. The palak paneer used some kind of French melty cheese instead of the little cubes of yogurt-cheese. Both mains didn't suck. One star for that. We didn't get sick from the food. That's another star. Congratulations!
