Eggs Benedict w/ smoked salmon
Michele T.

Brunch date with the hubs and been wanting to check this place out. It was busy but we were able to snag a table. We ordered the soft scramble and Eggs Benedict. Had to try the pastries, so we also ordered a chocolate croissant and butter croissant. Love the big mugs of coffee. Ordered a vanilla latte but it didn't taste like vanilla - wonder if they just brought me a regular one. I liked the butter croissant. As for the chocolate, I think we've had better. As for our egg dishes, I enjoyed the soft scramble. Comes with a side salad and smoked trout. Hubs enjoyed the benedict. At no time did we feel rushed. Nice start for our morning.

Bistro Board 5 for $18 (roast potatoes, scrambled eggs, smoked salmon, fresh fruit, cinnamon morning bun)

My friend suggested this place for brunch, and oh my gosh it was so good! I got the 5-item bistro board, and it was the perfect light breakfast. I loved being able to try so many items at an affordable price, and everything was delicious. I also liked the set-up where you pay first, and then your food gets delivered to your table. After we found a table, it took mere minutes for our food to arrive. After our meal was over, we lingered to continue catching up, and the staff never rushed us. Really appreciate that!

Mediocre is the only way to describe this place. It's been consistently ok for food, they don't seem to service / clean the tables very often, and I never leave there feeling full. It's got a cute European charm, but that's about it.

This place has been recommended by neighbors so we decided to check it out on a Saturday afternoon. The food was pretty good and well presented. The service was okay. You pay at a POS and grab a seat. We had to venture inside to ask for cutlery, salt/pepper, and another plate. The patio area definitely could have used a sweep because there was trash on the floor. The real star was the coffee - I had a delicious mocha. I would return for the coffee!

Le Marias was voted the best croissant in 2023 by the People's Choice. So I decided to try their croissant. Their croissant was a big disappointment for me. Why? The croissant was not crunchy on the outside. The croissant was not chewy on the inside. The croissant did not have that buttery taste. The croissant had a sour aftertaste. I am puzzled this croissant won People's Choice as the best croissant in San Francisco. In my opinion, this was one of the worst croissant I've tasted. DJ's rating: 1.0/5.00 Would I come back? Definitely not.

Although imperfect, Le Marais is a solid spot to grab a bite for brunch with some friends. I had mixed feelings about some of the food. The freshly prepared food was quite nice, but the pastries, I'd consider only to be okay. Your mileage may vary on seating, depending on when you show up. For the group I was with, it was quite a challenge to find enough space for our group to sit and eat. That said, when we decided we did want to stay, the staff handled a couple of us switching our orders to dine-in very gracefully. If you're here when it's a little less busy, you might not have the same issues. All things considered, it's definitely a solid spot to check out.

I came here for brunch with a friend and unfortunately had an incredibly frustrating experience. It started when I ordered an iced Americano and was given a hot one instead. I had to talk to multiple staff members before they brought out the correct drink. We were also never given water cups. Other tables around us had them, but they never gave them to us. After my friend had already finished his entire meal, we had to get up and get water cups ourselves. The worst part was that my food took over 50 minutes to arrive. I had ordered a salmon crepe, and it was actually the first item we placed. When we asked about it, we were told it hadn't been entered into the system. They said it would come out in about five minutes, and eventually it did, but it was extremely underwhelming (almost wished it hadn't). The crepe itself was dry and had an odd texture. The filling was just some spinach, a few slices of cucumber, and some salmon that tasted unusually fishy. It didn't feel fresh, and overall the dish was just not enjoyable to eat (I took a few bites and left ASAP). The table next to us was also waiting a long time for their food. It felt like the staff were trying their best, but they were clearly stretched too thin. I understand places get busy, but the basics were missed here. I really hoped this would be a nice brunch spot, but it ended up being disappointing. I won't be coming back.

If you're looking for that perfect summer brunch spot that feels like a sunny getaway, Le Marais Bakery in San Francisco checks all the boxes. The café itself feels like a slice of summer in Europe -- bright white walls, pops of blue, sun-drenched corners, and leafy plants that give off total Santorini brunch vibes. It's the kind of place where you can sip on a hot cappuccino lose track of time, and pretend you're on vacation. Loved The Pain Suisse.Think about layers of flaky, buttery pastry hugging rich belgium chocolate and silky cream (not sure about it's ingredients though) -- each bite perfectly balanced between indulgent and light. It's not just a pastry; it's a moment. Crisp on the outside, melt-in-your-mouth on the inside. Next time would love to try their proper brunch menu, so many options to choose from.

Croissant, almond croissant, and palmier
Tyler S.

I first found this place from Instagram because of the giant croissant that they make. You have to order it at least three days in advance online, which I did. A few minutes before my pick up time they called me telling me there was a baking issue and I wouldn't be able to get the giant croissant I ordered, and if I could come the next day instead. I had just arrived at the bakery and ended up talking to the staff in person where she explained what happened, refunded me for my order, and then offered me free pastries because they couldn't fulfill my original order. While I was initially annoyed that I wasn't given more notice, I appreciated the comped baked goods. The palmier was a bit stale, but the croissants were amazing. The plain croissant is the best croissant I've ever had in the US and tasted just like the croissants I've had in France. You can really taste the butter in these croissants! And the almond croissant was very tasty as well and had a lot of filling. The place itself was very cute and I loved that the tables outside were set up in the style of French cafés. And all the staff working here had brunch accents so it really felt like I was in a French boulangerie.

Food Quality: * (Dry, Overhyped) Service: * (Unhelpful, Slow) Ambiance: ** (Standard Bakery) Value: * (Overpriced Disappointment) Le Marais Bakery was a massive letdown. We drove quite a distance specifically for their supposedly famous gigantic croissant, advertised as the largest in SF. Imagine my frustration when I was told it requires a 48-hour advance order... information nowhere to be found on their website or the article that raved about it! Highly disappointing after the long drive. To at least try something, I ordered a regular croissant, and it was terrible - dry and completely unremarkable. Adding insult to injury, the service was unhelpful. We brought our own coffee cups, trying to be environmentally conscious, yet our coffee took significantly longer to arrive than orders placed after ours. This place is definitely a 1-star experience, and I certainly won't be returning. Lesson learned: always check Yelp reviews first.

Le Marais promises a taste of France in the heart of SF, and on a bustling Sunday morning, it certainly delivered the atmosphere. At the entrance, they have a menu for those who are waiting to order. We looked through the menu and found a bunch of interesting pastries, but they seemed to be out of the ones that intrigued us the most by the time it was our turn to order. We eventually settled on the Brunch for Two. Despite the crowd, we were pleasantly surprised by how quickly we found a table. Le Marais exudes a quaint and cozy ambiance, perfect for relaxing and soaking in the Parisian-inspired surroundings while sipping a drink and people-watching. It truly felt like a little escape. FOOD: Our order was massive for the two of us! It came with a generous amount of yogurt, fruit, granola, avocado, scrambled eggs, and smoked salmon. I was really excited to dig into the spread. The only disappointing part, and which is what I came to Le Marais to try, was their pastries. They didn't feel special compared to other bakeries. Regardless, everything still tasted really light, healthy, and left us feeling satisfied with our leftovers. Le Marais offers a charming atmosphere and a delicious, generously portioned brunch. It's a great spot for a casual weekend meal and a taste of Parisian cafe culture.

I don't know why this place doesn't have better reviews! I came on a Friday morning around 9am to get some work done and thought it was a perfect place to work. They were playing French music and had lots of big windows with good natural light -- such a nice vibe. I had an amazing almond croissant but definitely want to come back to try the food. The workers were super nice too.

Came here to try their viral Giant Croissant! You have to preorder it at least 3 days in advance (which you can do online), and make sure to choose the right pickup time. We accidentally reserved it for 8:00 AM, so when we got there at 9:30 AM, it was cold. The croissant was HUGE, larger than my head! We split it between 5 people and even then we took home leftovers. I thought the ends and top part of the croissant were decently good and had good lamination and layers. The bottom middle portion, however, was dense and gummy, likely because of the sheer size of the croissant and not being able to cook it all the way through. The novelty (and why we ordered it) was the size of the croissant, so I expected the baking to be somewhat uneven. It was fun to share, though! There's seating indoors and outdoors, though tables are generally meant for parties of 4 and under by table size. The outdoor patio was a delight to sit out in, it was a beautifully sunny day. Would come back to try their other pastries, they looked delicious!

Once the bakery opened at 9 AM the line moved fairly fast, but by opening time the line was down two blocks and wrapped around out of sight. We'd heard about B&C lines but even this on a weekday morning was surprising. Overall the pastries were very good, I will say that the savory pastries rank higher here than anywhere else I've been, but the sweet pastries don't. We got the Strawberry Rhubarb Cruffin, Lemon Bluberry Bun, Potato Artichoke Croquiche, Bacon Egg & Cheese, and Sam's Blood Orange Olive Oil Cake. The Croquiche was my favorite of all of them, and it was great warm, with a nice creamy filling. From the sweet pastries, my favorite was the Strawberry Rhubarb Cruffin - the rhubarb taste wasn't very strong but it was overall flaky, not too dry (even when eating it later in the day), and the cinnamon coating also didn't clash with the strawberry, vanilla, and orange. Least favorite was the olive oil cake; it was slightly bitter and the olive oil taste was dominating. These pastries are very large. Split between 2 people 3 of them were enough for us to be so full we saved the rest for later. I also got the Brown Butter Butterscotch Latte (iced), I'm not usually a fan of coffee but it was really good (it's very sweet so as a non-coffee drinker that worked out for me - the syrups overpower the coffee taste). The inside is cute with a pastel pink theme, we were able to snag the two seats by the window. I also liked the merch for sale and got a small print of the storefront. Definitely worth going too once, but due to the line I probably won't return until a monthly menu comes out that has a lot of things I desperately want to try. It's a top 3 bakery in SF for sure.

Our cousins were familiar with both bakeries and graciously volunteered to be our foodie guides as we drove to these two bakeries Saturday morning. After visiting Tartine and B Patisserie, Arizmendi was our final bakery and our last stop on our Bay Area foodie tour. Just like the other two bakeries, Arizmendi was a popular destination, it was different than the other two in the selection of the pastries, and I highly recommend their corn cranberry scone and their cheese focaccia. Arizmendi is also located in the Mission District specifically on Valenica and 24th Street. The bakery is in between a Royal gas station and the KitTea Cat Lounge. Parking consists of street parking and just like the other bakeries, parking could be challenging, but Arizmendi is worth the trouble parking and walking to this confectionary paradise. This bakery is a business where their baked goods are enjoyed at home since there is minimal seating. What's unique about this bakery compared to the other two is how the baked goodies are selected. It is self serve where it's a little hectic trying to maneuver around other customers to pick the pastries and breads you desire. The young black lady behind the register who checked us out was courteous, friendly, and took care of us quickly. As you enter Arizmendi, there are four wooden display cases with plexiglass holding scones, cinnamon rolls, muffins, pies, croissants, focaccia, cookies, and shortbreads. As you peer through the plexiglass to decide what to select, make sure to grab the provided wax to pick up your baked goods and place them in the provided bags. One of our friends asked us to grab scones, so scones were one of the items we knew we were going to purchase. My wife selected other items, but I asked her for a focaccia because my cousin said that Arizmendi was know for their pizza breads. I highly recommend you purchase their corn cranberry scones. These scones are hearty, the cranberry is plentiful, and I really enjoyed these while I was drinking a coffee at home. The focaccia I picked was a cheese focaccia made with poblanos, kale, and queso fresco. That square pizza bread was a savory revelation where I devoured that as snack after heating it in our home toaster oven. It was cheesy, the poblanos and kale were tasty, and I completely agreed with my cousin's assessment about their pizza bread. We're so grateful to our cousins for taking valuable time to serve as our foodie tour guides during our trip to San Francisco. Bay Area denizens are blessed to have three bakeries where they can satisfy their pastry, dessert, and bread cravings. We're fans of Arizmendi's scones and pizza bread.
