This place had the right look, and is one of the few places in Reims found on LeFooding. Wines by the glass are "blind", so you pick a color and get a wine. My companion and I each chose red, and were served a very small glass of wine. We were later told it was a Czech wine, but weren't able to actually look at the bottle, which kind of defeats the purpose of, I don't know, trying to find a wine or grape another time? Service is achingly slow, and awkward. Multiple people coming to drop off silverware, but I had to find my own menu. We wanted a simple apero, and ordered a cheese plate, which is described as having 5 cheeses. The smallest cheese plate I've ever seen - 17 euros - and served on a bread plate. I've seen pats of butter on toast bigger than these cheeses. It took almost 30 minutes for the cheese matchsticks to arrive. Since this made us very cranky we kept a close eye on the rest of the tables. Our neighbors ordered the same cheese plate, with what looked like a lot more cheese, but still ridiculously small. Not clear if this is a bobo place for tourists, and thus, they get you once and you won't ever come back. But either way, we won't be back. To quote my companion: "Reims c'est une cauchemar des années 90."

The style and decor of this place is a bit dated, but I'm not sure if it's old or purposely done that way. When we walked in, it was empty, but it filled up quickly. I think we were pretty much ahead of all the crowds by 30 minutes everywhere we went. You have the option of 4 or 5 courses, cheese course is included with either choice. I think every table we overheard asked about portion sizes and whether they should choose 4 or 5. 4 courses is plenty of food, but you should choose the 5 cause you're in Champagne, so why not. The sauce for my langoustines was a bit too fishy for my taste, but my fish and beef dishes were both really good. And tart for dessert was delicious. The French really know how to do pastries. They don't do wine parings, so we were recommended a bottle and it went very well with the food. We did learn that the champagne that is aged in oak goes better with food. Overall a very good dining experience.

One of the owners speaks English and was incredibly helpful recommending some amazing local cheese - we went back twice. In addition to local cheese, they also have a great selection of European cheeses, and he sold us the most incredible salted butter I've ever eaten. It was deserted when we arrive and the first employee we met in the store was a total b^%$ch. She could barely bring herself tp let us know the factory door was around the back and directed us to stand in front of a door which she would open for us. We waited and she never showed. We went back to the store found someone else to open the door and she was another b%$#@!. Back in the store b%$#@! Number 1 was only too happy in her manner to let us know she resented out buying candy. Seriously don't go here. They HATE TOURISTS! There.s not much to see anyway. They show a 30 minute video and then you can walk around and see the workers making candy except when we were there there was only a few people working and not doing much of anything.

She'll happily show you photos of her garden and talk to you about roses. We some very little French and she very little English but it was a memorable interaction I will probably hold onto for many years. Even the street it's on is absolutely charming. Just the kind of specialty shop you want to see in a lovely town. Not some crappy mass produced tourist stuff but a real charming woman who grows her own roses and makes her own honey.
