Dinner in Mont Saint-Michel, France…read more.. We just wanted a convenient restaurant near to our hotel after a 5-hour flight, 8 hour layover, 11-hour flight, 2-hour drive, sight-seeing, and another 3-hour drive. I don't remember having lunch! The first restaurant didn't take us because we didn't have a reservation. That's why we ended up at Le Pre Sale. It looked less crowded than the restaurant across the street. We just had to wait in the lounge for a table... about 15 minutes. Staff were polite and efficient. The restaurant was pleasantly decorated with color-coordinated carpets, chairs, paintings, etc. I had the lamb entrée. It was very tender and NOT gamey! The gravy really delicious with a light, buttery flavor. The scalloped potatoes were good, too! We appreciated the complementary bread basket! This was our first real meal in France together. It was enjoyable and memorable!

It felt very touristy, which makes sense. This felt like a hotel restaurant, that was fancy-adjacent, with high prices, typical French service, and OK but not exquisite food. Everything was good, nothing was great, and service (as expected) wasn't great. It felt like all the people in the closer hotels all reserved dinner at the same time and the place went from zero to packed in a half hour. I can't ding service when they can't control the volume of customers all at one time.

Went for Dinner Food…read more- 5/5. They truly showcase the quality of local Normandy products in an excellent farm-to-table concept. Bread had an amazing chew and the butter was rich and creamy. The bisque was clear broth, and the lack of cream made it easier to taste the natural sweetness of shrimp. Arugula gave it a peppery kick and the fried onions added crunch. We tried both styles of their specialty, the salt marsh lamb, and it was phenomenal. Lamb chops were grilled just slightly to create a sear, resulting in a perfect rare doneness. This allowed us to taste the unique texture of the lamb, which was very tender, being easy to cut with just your teeth. It had a very rich lamb flavor with no gaminess. While the lamb chops focused on the natural flavor of the lamb, the confit showed the culinary fineness of the restaurant. Confit was fork tender, aromatic with thyme, and the jus served as a sauce that reinforced the confit's flavor. Their vegetables were fantastic bringing out the natural flavors of each with excellent texture. Carrots were my favorite as they were roasted perfectly, creating a soft bite and emphasizing their natural sweetness. Potato mille feuille had a soft crunch, creamy interior, and the layers made for a fun texture. You could really taste the earthy flavors of the potato, which was even better when soaked with the confit jus. The cheeses were very strong with a sharp flavor. I could tell that they were of good quality, but I personally prefer milder cheeses. The farmhouse ice cream was absolutely amazing being rich, but not overpoweringly sweet. It was semi-hard, being able to hold its own shape, which resulted in a dense texture that melts in your mouth. It was a perfect pairing with the profiterole, which added a crunchy texture. Service - 4/5. Courteous and friendly service. They spoke fluent English, were readily available and the speed of service was fitting for the French dining culture. I made reservations via email and they provided a code to get past the gate. The code also provided a discount for the gate fees. Value - 5/5. Being a huge tourist destination, there are many touristy options in the area. Many of them state they offer the local specialty, agneau de pre-sale, but only have one option on their menu. La Ferme Saint-Michel is the only location I saw that has more than just a confit, offering the lamb chops that most tourists think of when it comes to lamb. They have a 45€ prix fixe of appetizer, entree, and dessert that includes the lamb confit but the lamb chops are a la carte, priced between 32-42€. Everything was sourced locally, tasted amazing, and the portions were great. An absolute must-visit restaurant to experience the local cuisine of Mont Saint-Michel. Parking - Private Lot (Free)

Dinner in Mont Saint-Michel, France…read more.. We tried to dine at La Ferme Saint-Michel on the evening that we arrived, but we didn't have a reservation. My assignment from my friends was to get a reservation for 7:30pm for a party of 4 for the next day. I emailed the restaurant, then booked online. Everything was in French, so I guessed at how to answer the usual questions: How many in the party, time, and date requested. We parked for free in the gravel lot and walked in to a busy environment. Our table was in a connecting room where it seemed brighter and calmer. I chose the set meal for 45€. My starter was the duck salad which was nice and refreshing. The main entrée was the Salt Marsh Lamb Shoulder. It seemed like a patty made from shredded meat. Strange, but tender and moist! The dessert was Pont D'Orson. The cookie between the baked apple and scoop of ice cream was like the bridge between Mont Saint-Michel and the mainland. This restaurant was large and on the noisy side. It was an interesting foodie experience!

However, everything was quite good, the meat charcuterie particularly delicious after the slight trek back from Le Mont Saint- Michel Castle. Service was incredibly efficient after the game, especially if you come for a later lunch. We arrived around 1 and stayed until lunch closing around 2:30. I ordered beef stew from the country menu which was perfectly soft and cooked with an assortment of summer squashes and peppers. The stew came with a side of freshly made fries, crisp and piping hot. I personally recommend their dessert, in particular the ice creams. Incredibly smooth and creamy served with both a small meringue and cookie in a glass. Despite the initial hiccup and wait with service, our waiter was efficient and hilarious. He cracked jokes constantly and left us all in a better mood. It helps that everyone in the restaurant is bilingual (French and English), and they seem to have menus in multiple languages. Pop art decor meets casual dining and decent service. Food was standard but not stellar, though the dessert is still a must.

Granted they're not an ice cream shop and I didn't go there for a meal but the two tiny scopes of ice cream were 4.50 Euros. As an American, I expected them to have air conditioning but they didn't. Most of France didn't really have any air conditioning - not in their restaurants nor their public transportation. Mind you, their restaurant was pretty empty. They had maybe two other tables occupied out of 60, but wouldn't let me sit at a table after they found out I wasn't ordering a meal from them. Thankfully, I found a seat in the waiting area near the bar to have my ice cream. I understand that this restaurant had to have high prices because it's right next to a tourist attraction but I felt the service could have been a little better. Granted the language barrier made it harder to communicate. If it wasn't for the English menu, and the heat, I would have probably got my ice cream elsewhere.

We passed by this place (most of the eateries pretty much offer similar things) and decided to try it out. Like most places there, it was packed. We got a small table in the middle and given our menus. We're vegetarian but don't eat onions or garlic, so we waited until someone came by to take our orders before I could figure out what we could have. I still don't know the correct way to pronounce onion or garlic in French (I tried and she didn't understand... or maybe it was too loud; my voice doesn't carry well) though I know how to spell them so I typed it out on my phone. They were busy so our waitress abruptly left to care for another table and put in their order before returning. I found it slightly rude, but it made sense so I can't really fault her too much. Being vegetarian is one thing but when she realized we also didn't eat onion and garlic, she made this "noooo" sound and our choices were narrowed significantly down to crepes. There goes my omelette. You'd think it would be easy enough to fix a simple vegetarian omelette... What in the world do they put in there?? We ended up ordering from the crepe set menu (€16 per person): vegetarian crepe (sans onion but includes mushroom and tomato... mine included cheese as well) and a small side salad, he got the Nutella crepe, I got the salted caramel crepe, and you get a sweet to round it off. I wanted the butter sable and my husband wanted the chocolate cookie. You can also get caramel. It all came with some bread. The savory crepes were seasoned well and good. I liked the caramel crepe due to the slightly burned caramel taste - it wasn't overly sweet. The Nutella was good too; it is Nutella... They forgot about the cookies until we reminded them when they came by for us to pay. I also didn't get my butter sable as she handed us two packs of chocolate chip cookies; they were prepackaged cookies from a cookie store/brand local to Mont Saint-Michel. It's crunchy and not too sweet; I would have loved it with some milk. As it were, we were offered coffee once our dessert crepes were consumed. As soon as we finished our bottle of water, it was immediately replaced with a full one. The staff doesn't seem to know much English. Then again, most of the tourists appeared to be French so maybe they don't need to. The place was nice enough and the staff was good, but I couldn't help but feel they would have liked it a lot more if we didn't have dietary restrictions. Trust me, lady, I don't want to either, but I can't bring my own kitchen around with me. We certainly weren't offered the balcony table like they did with the table next to us was when one freed up. Even so, the food was decent though the prices were on the steep end. I could have gotten the same thing for €5 to €7 or so in Paris without the "tsk"-ing. I guess that's what "tourist trap" means! Haha, I guess I can't complain too much - we actually got a hot and savory meal that met our restrictions in an isolated area.

Everyone remaining is jamming the few remaining restaurants, so this one gets a star for letting us in. Unfortunately, the meal was not that spectacular. I had the moules frites, which doesn't disappoint. It was flavorful and good. The kids were less satisfied with their meals. k had the salmon plate, which K said was VERY bland and flavorless. It came with plain rice (served pretty cold, so much so that the butter we put in it to add flavor did not melt), and luke warm peas and carrots, which were good but bland. Elena was unimpressed aire her seafood pasta, which she said had no flavor; so lacking in flavor that she tried to add butter and salt/pepper, but they didn't blend in well. Kieran's meal came with an apple tartlet, which was unassuming. About an average meal, I guess, which resulted in this 2-star rating. When you're stuck, you have to live with your choices.
