I've been on the hunt for the best crepes when I moved to France a little over a year ago, and I…read morewas really excited to go to Brest & Brittany -- which is where the galette crepes originate from. We ate crepes a handful of times when we were in Brittany, and this place was okay, but not amazing for me. I like my crepes more generous filled and I was still a little hungry after eating my savory crepe (maybe I just eat a lot!) I got a crepe with artichokes, mushrooms, cheese, and with a small salad of top. I did like the addition of the salad for some greens and to make my meal a little healthier. The salad was fresh and the mustardy dressing was really nice too. The sweet crepe we got had homemade strawberry confiture and a scoop of vanilla ice. Simple but good; I think my husband liked this better than me; I had FOMO because someone else had gotten something with apples and ice cream and I thought it looked better. All in all, decent crepes - better than average but nothing going out of your way for. The prices were not too expensive either and the food came out quickly. If I ever returned to Brest, I think I'd seek out a different crepe place to try. 3.5 stars from me - if you haven't had a ton of crepes to eat, this place will be better than average, but if you're searching for the best crepes to eat, I don't think it will be here sadly.

However, when we called Diwali, we were delightfully surprised! The chef/owner answered the phone and spent a long time talking to us. He explained that the galettes (buckwheat crepes) could be made with no milk, eggs, or butter. He said they didn't have tofu, but they could do a melange of vegetables and salad. He also said, "Our fries are not vegetarian, they are made with beef fat." I appreciated how up front he was and that he had an understanding of what it means to be vegan. Once there, we were delighted by the decorations, atmosphere, and price. I had a fantastic galette with julienned vegetables, tomato sauce provencale, and carmelized onions. It was truly delicious. For dessert, since I can't have sugar, I had a galette with fresh local strawberries. Meanwhile, my husband had several fantastic vegetarian crepes, full of cheese and chesnut creme. He loved his and had a blackberry cidre to drink. One of the best parts for me was actually the kindness of the owner and staff. The waitress squeezed us into a table and understood my dietary needs. The owner/chef checked on us repeatedly, even speaking in English at times. When he knew we were in a hurry to leave, he made the crepe in just moments. He seemed genuinely committed to the comfort and happiness of his customers. If I were staying here longer, I would certainly be a regular customer. However, instead, I will recommend that anyone who is vegan (or even vegetarian) visit Diwali and enjoy the food, decorations, and warm welcome.
