If you're anywhere near Barolo town in Italy and love great wine, La Vite Turchese is an absolute…read moremust. This was hands-down one of the most memorable wine tastings we've had in Piedmont. The Barolo tasting was thoughtfully curated, showcasing the depth, elegance, and diversity of the region--from structured, age-worthy expressions to more approachable, aromatic pours. Each wine was introduced with genuine passion and deep knowledge, not in a rehearsed way, but with the warmth of people who truly live and breathe Barolo. We learned so much about terroir, producers, and vintages without it ever feeling overwhelming. The charcuterie board was the perfect companion: beautifully presented, featuring high-quality local cured meats, cheeses, and accompaniments that elevated each glass. Nothing felt generic--every bite was intentional and paired beautifully with the wines. What really sets La Vite Turchese apart is the atmosphere. Tucked right in the heart of Barolo town, it feels intimate, relaxed, and authentic--exactly what you hope for in a wine experience here. The service was welcoming, attentive, and never rushed, making us feel like guests rather than customers.

We stmbled into this place while in Barola wine tasting on vacation. Wow, great experience…read more Stefano listened to what type of experiance we were looking for, and pulled 4 wines that lead us on a journey to explain and discover the region. He had a great selection of regional wines, with prices that were very non-tourist. He insisted his wife select a cheese to compliment the wine, great decision. His shop hasn't been there very long, but what a contrast to the mass tourist stuff we got at the wine museum. Go find this place. If you are into wine, it is worth it.

This is where I want to start my reports of the places I checked out during the recent trip to…read moreItalia. Why here? It was a discovery and a beautiful one! Meaning it was not known to me before, not recommended by anyone, I just came across it in a tiny hilltop town of Piemonte after a a long hike and on a gorgeous day. Tired, hungry and thirsty we entered this little place, where not so friendly owner told us that he does not really serve food, just drinks and appetizers. OK, not that much choice and the view is amazing, so we landed on the terrazza (terrace, overlooking the heavenly hills and planes). Ordered some wine: Barolo seemed to heavy to me for a warm afternoon, so the owner suggested a local white, called Arneis ( hope I am spelling it correctly)-what a beautiful surprise it was, tasting like very subtle Californian Savignon Blanc, refreshing and soothing. "I'll bring you what's available in the house", he said (vi porto, c'e l'abbiamo). It was: fresh cherry tomatoes salad, white bean salad, tuna salad, procciutto crudo, salumi and the climax of it all was raw porcini mushrooms from the woods of Piemonte, sliced thinly and sprinkled with olive oil and balsamic vinegar, just ever so slightly! Bread. When we finished our feast I came up to the owner, who was by then my best friend and asked for the card to take it home and write a review. He was happy. As you see, I kept the promise.

Our server told us they didn't have a full menu, mainly appetizers and drinks, which was fine with us. We ordered what they were serving for two people, which was more than enough food. We had a cured meat plate, porcinis in a green sauce, bagna cauda with veggies, and white beans with tuna. Everything was fantastic! Be sure you have enough euros on you, as they do not accept credit cards. It was roughly 50 euro for the both of us, which we thought was a little high; however, we were so happy with the food, service, and the view that we didn't even mind. The wine was wonderful as was the coffee. We had a great view overlooking the hills between Castiglione Falletto and Serralunga. The next time we are in the area we will make a point to return for a great lunch!
