First, even if you are not serious about making a purchase, I would consider visiting this place to…read moreget an education about watches. The store doubles as a mini museum with three floors of current and historical models of JLC watches, and with sales staff happy to educate you. I've never seen an ATMOS clock (a clock powered by atmospheric pressure changes in the environment) in person anywhere else. It was a treat. Second, the service center downstairs managed by Mathieu is top notch. I brought my reverso duo face in for anti-magnetic issues (turns out walking through airport security checks might mess out the balance wheel in the watch). Service was great and I walked away learning more about my watch. (I particularly enjoy the part where he describes my watch as a "she", rather than "it", which may either be a result of faulty French translating that is done in his head, or the fact that he regards a JLC watch as a living, breathing organism that he cares deeply about. I prefer to think it is the latter). Third, when I bought my watch here in 2012, it was a very pleasant experience. While they could not move on the retail price, the sales associate offered a 16% (rather than the usual 12%) VAT refund and also threw in a second, black ostrich strap (on top of the standard brown croc one that comes with the watch), which I currently use. After visiting the service center, this past time, I looked at some more watches, particularly an ultra-thin with a date function and received similarly friendly and accommodating service from Elena. While I would rather not double up on the same brand for my next watch purchase (for diversity reasons), the overall experience at the JLC flagship in Paris, both for sales and repairs, in addition to some of their very nice models available, will make the decision to look to another brand very difficult indeed.

Highly recommended! I visited this location in search of a deployment buckle for my Reverso and was…read moreassisted by two extraordinary sales staff who installed the buckle within 5 mins. The level of expertise, attention to detail, friendliness, and passion for JLC and watchmaking was supremely evident throughout. These guys were incredibly down to earth and it's clear they love what they do. And while I wasn't looking for anything new, there's quite a good selection across the range including some boutique exclusives. Could not have asked for a better experience!

While malls die all over America, retail still thrives in Paris. Exhibit A: Galeries Lafayette Haussmann. I've been to this department store a number of times over the years, and I both enjoy it and fear how completely it can suck up precious vacation hours. It's a fantastic place to shop, with a ton of well curated inventory spread out across multiple floors in multiple buildings. The main building features that beautiful domed ceiling, which manages to catch me by surprise every time I walk in. I haven't had the opportunity to shop for my own clothes here in a long time, but I've gotten some really great stuff on the children's floor, and discovered the souvenir section on my last visit, where I picked up some cool Paris Metro toy trains and magnets. We did somehow get stuck at Galeries Lafayette for over two hours and ended up skipping Notre-Dame, which might have been a better place to spend our last afternoon in Paris. But it was sale season, and my kids look super cute in their heavily discounted Petit Bateau. Galeries Lafayette is busy and sometimes overwhelming, but it's a wonderful department store. I wish we had something like it back home. I'd much rather shop there than fall for targeted ads on Instagram.

It was perfect since Paris had record high temperatures and we could relax and lounge nearby here. The kids loved FAO Swartz and all the live demos, especially seeing the stuffies where we ended up caving and buying a few. Overall, this was a beautiful spot!
