Stop by the centuries-old trees that frame the entrance to the village like elven gates, turn around and look at Apt below - little houses around the hillside. Visit Notre-Dame de Pitié, and walk to town square to relax by the fountain. (if you going to dinner at the restaurant around the corner and ask for tap water, don't be surprised to see waitress walking straight to that same fountain to refill your pitcher). It's a great place to be your central point if you want to take lavender drives - there are several routes around the area that will take you around hillsides and to the best lavender fields in the area. Fair warning: most of local roads are very narrow - barely one car wide, winding and have no safety railing even as you get to higher grounds, so be careful out there. There are several lavender oil distilleries nearby as well, worth visiting. Saignon is a place that will forever charm your heart.

We had to park at the top of the road and walk down to the abbey area. Take some time to tour the church and looks at the carving around the door area and inside. Knights Templar? This massive tomb site is date back 4th century. During that time the graveyard is set next to city…read moregate. During that time tomb is not allowed in the city wall. A lot wealthy people buried here. It is consider a popular site to buried. It is a large Roman necropolis. Where necropolis is defined as city of dead. It was popular that they ship some dead from other place to here from sea. Onetime it was buried in thee layer. Since it is wealthy people graves, these grave rob and dug out for the items that buried with them. When you visited this place, you will see a lot of empty coffins due to the same reason was robed. The coffins line up like a street straight line and lead to the chapel behind. This place is part of UNESCO world heritage site. There was a bishop buried here and his relic is now removed to a church nearby. van Gogh and Paul Gauguin have come to this place to draw the graveyard side by side. It will be fun to host an event for Halloween.
