It's a hidden gem! We drove around the lake and most of the hotels are across the street but we found this one by accident and it's lakeside. I couldn't be happier staying here and our dinner was so superb that the chef must have a Michelin star and if he doesn't, then the Michelin inspectors need to dine here asap! We didn't have a reservation, so they had us sit outside (near the goat pen). It was a little chilly -- bring a jacket, or, like the family next to us, a couple of blankets. We had raclette and cheese fondue, so we were warmed by the apparatus of both. And the heavenly taste of melted local cheese and wine, crusty bread, white wine, potatoes, and a simple and delicious green salad. The proprietor-chef, Evan, is of Irish-Welsh origin and his great specialty is an Angus steak from Scotland aged to perfection, salted just so and cooked on the open fire that also heats the dining room. Everything else in the menu focuses on local cheeses and other elements of Savoyard culinary genius. Our favorite appetizer, which can also serve as a lighter main dish, is the Tarte aux Trompettes de La Mort, a magnificent baked torte made with local wild mushrooms. The Reblochonette is a fabulous melted cheese experience. Evan's special at the time of our two visits was a superb chicken breast stuffed with basil and pine nuts on a bed of spinach, which in turn was on a bed of whipped creamy potatoes. We tried all three deserts and loved them all: a dense chocolate fondant, a light bread pudding, and a creamy lemon posset. Pricing is very reasonable for the quality, and the location is a destination in itself. Well worth the trip. The only caution is no credit card use, since the refuge is off the grid for electricity (solar only).
