It's a bit divey, for sure, but not in a dirty or dingy way. Despite Yelp saying that credit cards are accepted here, the bartenders told me otherwise (with a 30CHF bill), so keep that in mind if you're visiting from out of town and have limited Swiss currency. I'm guessing those instances are probably limited, given the relative neighborhood-y feel to the bar, but with its proximity to the train station you never know. There's not much specifically identifiable as great about Olé Olé, but it's the culmination of everything about the place that just makes it generally lovable. The bartender gals are cheerful and charming, and even manage to have their own labeled beer as a result of their infamy. The patrons are chill, but friendly, so much so that we wound up back at the flat of one of the people we met at the bar to have some after-hours drinks and inevitably chat about global politics (some things never change). Pricing seemed decent, with 4 beers (I think) being about 25-30CHF. They only had the local beer Amboss on draft in two varieties, which was pretty mediocre, but still better than the Bud or Miller products you would find in a similar dive back in the U.S. This definitely feels like more of a shots or whiskey sipping kind of bar. The bathroom deserves its own special mention here, with some of the most odd / interesting decor I've ever seen, featuring a full size skeleton hovering over the toilet with a bouquet of flowers for a groin, and a machine that dispenses something called "Travel Pussy".

The crowd is kinda down-to-earth till the a-wanna-be-a-hipster. The music is nice (alternative - Rock). Prices of drinks are OK. Normal prices for Kreis 4. Just pay attention, it is a narrow bar. It gets difficult when you are with more then 4 people. And you can not be outside because it is right at the street. For sure a place to go once in a while.

Really casual and with no entrance price this is a nice place to go out on friday or the weekend. And my goodness it does this extremely well. The atmosphere is very relaxed. The clientele is in no way predefined. There is an eclectic mix of young and old, nerdy and hipster, locals and foreigners. Basically it is a place where everyone can just feel comfortable. The best thing about this place though is the live music. I have been there quite a few times, with absolutely no idea of who/what was playing and each time pleasantly surprised with the quality of music that is on show. The bar is not that big which helps in making the atmosphere as it doesn't require many people to give it that full/pumping feel. And as much a people squeeze into the back, there is always room at the front for a little boogie. After the bands back up, a DJ is generally on hand to lay down some tracks and set the mood. In the summer, you can really feel the beauty of this location as the soft, cool breeze of the Sihl runs by you as you sit outside with a drink. A no-fuss BBQ food is also available for purchase during outdoor friendly weather. The only negative I find is that there can be at times a lot of smokers outside putting a damper on the nice air, but this is more of a Zurich thang, not El Lokal's fault. The convenience of this location is key - it's a short walk from the Sihlpost stop (Lines 3, 14, 31). Frequented by real hipsters (ya know, those that would never call themselves hipsters), they host regular live band concerts in a cozy atmosphere. Sadly I've heard that this is running into tough times, as I was told this was attributed to younger generations (Millennials/Generation Z...) trending more into club hopping and not so much into live music in small cozy venues. So please support this place and attend a concert here with some friends - could be a great time! Drinks selections are decent, and will please the patriotic Swiss soft drink lovers as they carry stuff from the local Vivi Kola. But hopefully, unlike my favorite pirate Jack Sparrow, you won't be saying "why is the rum gone" when you are here!

The inside does look a little saucy - 70's disco meets strip club. There are a few bar stools and a few corner benches. No special beer selection, no special cocktail menu. There's a digital jukebox on the wall, that is always playing unless someone pays for a request. A real hole-in-the-wall.
