At €4.80, Bar Brigand offers some of the cheapest pints of beer to be found in Aix. However it's the atmosphere of this Americana infused dive that will surely bring you back. Nestled off a tiny rue (street) descending from Place Richelme, one of Aix's main town squares and site of the daily produce market, you'll see the sloping black awning and tiny outdoor terrasse of this café by day, bar by night.
After the sun goes down, you'll find grungy haired, flannel wearing locals swarming the bar for Pastis or pints, quickly defecting outdoors to huddle in groups to drink and smoke. The walls bear tribute to all things kitch, from tin reliefs of The 'Stones, black and whites of Brigitte Bardot, to polaroids of bar-goers scotch taped haphazardly on the walls. Amongst the tchotchkes, you'll play an inadvertent game of ''where's waldo'' with the bar's mascot, ''Le Brigand"(the bandit), though clad in a green blazer, feathered fedora and knee socks, he looks more Swiss Family Robinson that Swashbuckler.
After downing your first pint of Jupiler, the cheapest beer on pression (draft), class it up with a bottle of Delirium Tremens, before kicking your night into high gear with a round of 5 for €10 choose-your-flavor vodka shots. Anything form The Strokes to The Beach Boys will be playing depending on the night, but if you're there on a Friday or Saturday expect the dance party to start up around midnight. A classic dive and breath of fresh air from the electro-playing chi-chi lounges that permeate Aix-en-Provence, Bar Brigand offers something for everyone, offering up a golden opportunity to unleash your inner bandit. read more
