On first view it would be easy to be put off. The salad buffet by the door gives off a vaguely…read moretired vibe, but our hostess at the Gite had recommended it for a late dinner so we took her at her word, and were not disappointed. The buffet turns out to be the salad and hors d'oeuvres course. There were really nice local charcuterie, pickled vegetables, a terrine, rich local butter, all very tasty. We helped ourselves to a wide assortment and were very pleased. Crusty good bread was served at the table. The plats were on a chalkboard and there were7 or 8 offerings. I had lamb meatballs Provençal that were very good. The Spouse had the steak frites with a shallot wine sauce that he wiped up with a scrap of bread. There was also duck confit, two fish dishes, and a few others. plenty of choices. The sides were frites, rice or steamed potatoes. After the mains there was a cheese course, 5 local cheeses all delicious. one was a creme blue, which was almost green, and just delicious. Dessert selection was good, we had the chocolate mousse and the tart Normandy (apple) both very nice. There was alco cake and brulee and a flan on the menu. My apple tart was served with a very nice apple sorbet. For drinks was had tap water, very good in this area, and the Spouse had 2 small carafe's of red, maybe 4 glasses, and I had a small carafe of a local cidre, fresh, dry, fruity and good. But here is the kicker. Not only was the food solidly good, the service friendly, the final tab for this? Including and American style tip? E30 Boom.
