My first visit to Rubiyat was years ago in São Paulo under the fig tree. When I saw they had one in…read moreRio, I knew I needed to make a stop before heading to the airport (I was on a business trip). Once again, I was delighted by the food and the ambiance (where else can you sit in the city next to a park and looking straight at Cristo Redentor! The service was just as wonderful as I remembered. They recommended drinks (caipirinha de caçu) and the cuts of meat (always picanha for me)! We started with a nice assortment of break and accompaniments. The picanha was full of flavor and just the right amount. The side of palmito that was baked with cheese and nuts was out of this world!. Of course, a picanha isn't complete without farofa (we had the egg farofa). And to top everything off a pistachio petite gateau with raspberry sorbet...amazing! Once again, I have a reason to remember this spectacular place and to come back to Rio. Thank you!

The pork rib appetizer seemed boiled. not grilled. And had a slightly sweet sauce. Underwhelming. My main dish, beef ribs also didn't seem right. They were tender but also seemed not slow roasted as they should be. They were finished with a decent demi-glace that didn't belong there. The puffed potatoes that came where somehow off, unfortunately. And the desert, a simple Brazilian style flan, was also poorly executed. Certainly subpar for the price and the high expectations I had from this brand.

Impressive is the only word to describe the restaurant itself. The building is striking and has a…read moremassive interior that also feels elevated and grand. Fogo has its service down to a science and seating as well as waiter service is pretty seamless. I was surprised that attentiveness to refilling water and anything other than meat was not up to the standard that I have experienced at other Brazilian steakhouses. The meat itself was plentiful, however, more inconsistent than I would have liked. One serving of Filet Mignon was delicious, flavorful and perfectly cooked, while the next was surprisingly overly cooked (to the point of not being tasty or even chewable). Salad bar is impressive and offerings were fresh and varied. I would have liked a few more protein options in the salad bar (such as fish or shrimp). Overall, a beautiful restaurant - but consistency of food could be improved.

The options were vast, the flavor was unlike others that I've tried, and I absolutely liked the other locations. Besides the meats they brought out other rodizio options I've never had before and I genuinely enjoyed it. They also had good bottles of red wines that couldn't be resisted. The tres leches was arguably the best I've ever had. And it all turned out to be relatively inexpensive after the currency conversion.
