One of the processors had their account compromised, resulting in all information related to our…read moreloan being transferred to hackers. The hacker, posing as the processor, sent an email to me, the realtor, and the finance officer (each address differed by only one character). The email contained detailed and accurate information about the property, including the address, loan amount, and wiring instructions. The only discrepancy was the cash-to-close amount, which I attempted to reconcile. I went to the bank and, based on what appeared to be legitimate instructions (identical in format to prior instructions from the lender) and the bank processed the wire transfer. I sent confirmation to my realtor while still at the bank, who added it to my documents early Wednesday morning. In the same email thread, I again raised concerns about the cash-to-close discrepancy and expressed my frustration at being asked to complete the transaction the day before with no notice. At no point did the processor (or anyone on the thread - loan officer or realtor) pause to question the inconsistencies or take steps to verify the wire information that was sent. Fast forward to late Friday afternoon - after 3:30 p.m. - when the attorney advised that the wire transfer had not been received. Only then was the issue identified. Fortunately, our bank detected the breach and cancelled the transaction (several hundred thousand $s) before the funds were released. Had they not, the money would have been gone and we would have been left without either the funds or our home. We quite literally ran to the bank before it closed at 4:00 p.m. to resend the wire. As newcomers to Greenville, we were unfamiliar with the area and the urgency added significant stress. We then rushed back to complete the paperwork before offices closed. Cyber breaches unfortunately happen; that is an unfortunate reality. What made this situation far worse was the handling afterward. We were left waiting for 45 minutes while the attorney assisted another client who arrived after us. There was no meaningful apology, no acknowledgment of the seriousness of the breach, and no recognition of the potential financial devastation we narrowly avoided - either for us or for other clients impacted by this processor. The only comment offered was that it was a "Christmas miracle" that it "could have been bad," along with a brief "sorry I was late" upon returning. Based on this experience, I would never recommend this organization despite the fact that they came highly recommended by our realtor.

The most unprofessional law firm I have ever worked with as far as communication. To even let you…read moreknow what is going on in your own case, you are charged anywhere from $20 to $200 a phone call for them to ask you questions. I paid them over $2,500 just as a retainer, it has been 17 months and we have still not even been able to petition the court. When speaking with the firm they want to blame my family for not signing documents, yet my family has reached out them and now hired their own attorney. I am having to report them to the S.C. office of displinary council. I could of advised myself better at this rate. All this firm is capable of is wasting time, and racking up a bill. If you really need help DO NOT go with this firm, all they are concerned with is money.

If I had, I would've noticed a very important term was left out of the agreement costing me several hundreds of dollars a month. Subsequently I learned from a different attorney such a term was basic and should've made it in. Mr. Burney assured me after the hearing that term was in the agreement, and later it became obvious he was unfamiliar with the agreement. I also learned that the law firm initially served the defendant papers requesting a different kind of custody arrangement and living arrangement than I had approved, so the defendant ended up being angry with me for almost year, and I did not know why. I stopped using Burney's law firm and plan to represent myself in this final phase. Do not use The Law Office of Rhett Burney for family court. They seem to have too many cases, not enough staff but also too many cooks in the kitchen, and some integrity issues. The staff members who answer the phones, correspond via email, set up appointments, etc. - basically the paralegals and legal assistants - were phenomenal. I'll give Burney that - as soon as he finished assuring me that term was in the agreement, he asked me to scan a QR code so that I could leave a positive review for a couple of his assistants. If only I could leave a positive review for him and the whole firm.
