I'm new to that trailer life and this was the first place I pulled ours for some time away. I loved that this campground was right on Tomales Bay. The view from most campsites included the water, which is a nice perk, and the campground has great access to a private beach and dunes to explore. I loved that you could crab and fish directly from the beach, and we actually managed to catch a keeper rock crab! If you've got a small boat you may even be able to launch from the beach, and we def saw boats coming back with halibut caught right offshore. When I think of camping I think of being surrounded by nature, but this is a busy campground and to me it felt more like a large lot than a place to camp. I loved that we were with friends and could have that camping vibe, cooking meals and hanging out around a fire into the wee hours of the morning. The major plus see here were the access to the bay, and we made a lot of fun just kicking it on the beach, but the biggest downsides to me were how close the sites were to each other, the sound of generators constantly running, and the minimal scenery around each site to minimize the parking lot vibes. We still had a blast and I'm excited to go back again with the crew now that we're more familiar with our rig!

We booked this spot to camp because we had never been to this area before. The area is very clean and very spacious. If you're looking to fish, this is a great location, but not really great for much else. There are no toilets or showers available, but some very clean porta-potties are available all over the campgrounds. The store has cute basic items available, but the staff wasn't very friendly when we were there; maybe it was an odd couple of days. The quiet hours are enforced, which was very nice and the beautiful foggy mornings were the best things about this campground.

Stayed for two nights with our RV trailer at a beach side site, a little windy, but really nice place. It's located at the opening of Tomales Bay to the ocean and the fishing opportunities are many! We crab fished with great success..

Really nice folks that own and run this store. It's a pretty amazing store!

It couldn't be any less thank 5 stars for me. Park my rig right on top of the beach? The Hank you very much! There are no hookups but there are 2 better than average sanitation stations as they are on elevated areas with the drain ports as close as you want to get. Water and sanitation. Days go by quickly it seems. Gotta get this work thing out of the way, permanently. Nice place to decompress, gather one's thoughts, and make plans. Definitely would come back. The on site store is great. The prices are very reasonable and a very pleasant surprise. Thanks to Willy and Gage. These two are the perfect pair to handle boat launching, tank filling, a lot more, taking their time to make us feel like welcome guests. Thank you!

I came here for the day with my son to hang out for some co-workers this past Saturday. This campground is located right next to Dillon's Beach. Not sure how much it is to camp here, but it was $15 for a day use parking pass. It's a huge campground there is the Dillon's Beach side and if you go further down, there is the Lawson's Landing side in a bay. When you pull up to the gate, you need to park and get out to pay which is annoying, especially if you have an RV or are towing something. They don't provide you with a map of the campground, it it can be difficult to find where your site is. You just have to look on the fence posts where the site numbers are posted. This campground is for both RV/Camper Trailers and tents, but it seems like majority of the people have RV/Trailers (2/3, RV/Trailers to 1/3 tents). There are no hookups, so be prepared for dry camping. There are porta potties the rough out the campsites, but no hand washing stations. There are a few water spigots scattered around the campsites, but difficult to find as they are not marked. Another thing I noticed was that it is very dog friendly as it seems like 75% of the campsites had dogs. You are suppose to leash your dogs here, but they don't enforce it so there are a lot of loose dogs running around. Each campsite has a picnic bench/table and a fire pit. The best thing about this campground is that it is right on the water. On the Dillons Beach side, you just climb over a a large, steep sand dune and you are on the beach. On the Lawson's Landing Store side, it's on a bay, so the water is a little calmer, so you can kayak, maybe paddle board, fishing and crabbing. This place is known for crabbing during crab season. The Lawson's Landing store is actually pretty cool where they sell a bunch of random stuff, plus you can also purchase bait and cream bars/popsicles there. Overall, I felt this place is a little too crowded even there though the campsites are decent size, they are a little too close together for my taste especially with so many loose dogs running around. Make sure you keep an eye out for your food, otherwise a dog may get to it. At night you also need to need to pack up your food because there are other animals/birds/critters that may come and steal your food as well. Location: 5/5, easy beach and water access Camping: 3/5, too crowded, dirty porta potties, too many unleashed dogs Store: 4/5, lots of cool stuff there to see/buy Employees: 4/5, mostly friendly and nice, don't enforce leashing rule for dogs Overall: 3.5/5 stars

4 stars I've been here a few times over the years on day trips just to enjoy the raw beach, crashing waves, & sand dunes the kids like to slide down on. Usually it's windy, but always it's the natural ocean we enjoy. Lawsons is by no means fancy. In fact the only "nice" or modern part is the store, which I absolutely love to go in and browse when I need a change of scenery. You will find everything there except for maybe an extensive grocery section. My favorite part is likely what I call the Home Goods/Kirkland/Hobby Lobby section which has the most adorable sea and nautical themed items such as crabs, whales, ocean, etc. You will also find items for the crabbing experience such as squid, fishing items, unique items like colors you can throw into your campfire to make it rainbow colored. I wish I brought my sons kite, but if you want to fly one they have their own kite section. If you're hungry and don't feel like cooking or want to innterupt your experience by cooking, they have a few microwaveable items like pizza rolls, burritos, and even some stuff to take back to your site like hash browns. That same section also has coffee and teas and a microwave. Lawsons is a huge campground and if you camp far, you will need a car or bike or be ok with all the walking. You will for sure have to be okay with the wind too. I haven't been here 1 time over the years and it hasn't been windy. For the last 2 years we came the week after Christmas and it rains a lot during that time. Crabbing in the day hasn't proven fruitful, but crabbing at night, like after 6pm-12am has. Every single evening we threw the pods out we've come back with at least 8 or so crabs. When we went in the day we've came back with 1 or 2. Snares are hardly as fruitful as the pods and if you have a kayak or boat even better. It's really a great idea to know tides well and how that relates to crabbing. And also extremely wise to not use a kayak without knowing how to use it during the tides going out. The lady at the store told us 2 women in kayaks had to be helicopter back in recently. And when our 2 men went out during the outgoing tide it took everything in their middle aged bodies to paddle back to shore. I would love to come back when the tides are low for clamming. The spring is supposed to be great for that. We stayed in 524 and 525 and I really liked the proximity to the store, it's only a 2 minute walk or so and beach crabbing area we like to be at most of the time. Note to self, bring kites, a water jug to bring to wash our hands at at the beach, sledding saucers to go down dunes with and maybe bikes to ride all the way into Dillons Beach general store and around town in.

We had such a great time. We went in May ( a ton of wind so bad ) the campsite was so clean and massive. Can't wait to go back

I saw many good reviews and some not too impressed reviews about Lawson's Landing before I came for camping. It turns out I like the campground and the beautiful beaches in the area a lot! The campground is pretty busy. I almost think it is too many people and RVs. But the campground is huge, and I don't feel it is crowded at all. The campsites are pretty big with enough rooms between RVs. The check-in is a little different than most of the campgrounds. Most campgrounds let the drivers pull up next to the check-in stand, but Lawson's Landing requires the RVs to stop in front of the gate and walk to the check-in stand. It confused some people. I saw a driver pass the whole line in front of the check-in stand just because he didn't know people were lining up in front of the stand. Lol! The campground is very windy when I'm there. I have been told it is always like that most of the time! Make sure to bring a jacket even if you're in the summer. Another thing I must bring up is don't trust the Apple map GPS if you're using an iPhone. It brings me into the village. I almost can't make a turn on the very narrow street. Google map working in the area. I hope Apple will fix this problem soon!

Update...so after going here a couple of more times since my original post I will say that they can be difficult in terms of Reservations or working with you to change them ...we go in December when the place is literally at 25 percent capacity and they still can be difficult...we enjoy the proximity to the water in the 700 number sites amd that really is why we've been back ...looking into Doran next December

We tent camped in spot 518. The staff was super friendly. There's a private beach trail you can hike up and over the dunes to dillon beach. Bring your binoculars to see the Tule elk in the morning over at Tomales Point! Pretty area. Portable bathrooms were nice and clean. Definitely pricey at $70/night for a dry camping spot. But I guess worth it to be next to the ocean.

Can I get an ATT cell connection at the campground?

    I think so

Are the skunks more aggressive this year? I've heard they now openly walk into campsites with people around & spray pets more frequently. Curious if true? Thanks

We've seen deer, birds, ducks, cranes, squirrels, rabbits, seals, crabs, fish...I'm sure I'm missing something, but we have not ever seen even 1 skunk there.

    Are dogs allowed?

Yes! Dogs are allowed. But with the leash all the time.

Are the cows and their poop gone? Last time I went there cows were roaming around and ate peoples food!

No the cows are not in the campground have not been for many years.

Do the sea wall campsites all have fire pits?

    Yes

Hi all. Does this campground offer any full hook up options for RV's? If so, which site? Thank you!

    No, they don't.

Does anyone know how big the marsh campsites are?

    20x25ish

Is it very windy in August? Booked space 505 beach with pier access

Not that windy, but you never know

Is there anywhere to park extra vehicles?

At store? Sadly No, and also sadly for most rentals. Parking is EXTREMELY limited. 😓

    Which spots are the best?

Families and groups of friends are not welcome -- even normal conversation outside "quiet hours" can get you kicked out. My family arrived at 9pm, set up quietly, and went to bed. I was two sites away from friends who were simply talking, and I couldn't hear a thing. Still, management evicted our entire group -- 9 campsites in total. By morning, a sheriff was outside our trailer. To his credit, he was calm, professional, and quickly saw we were just working professionals with kids. He even helped us find a friendlier campground that had a far better view of the water. Meanwhile, this park hands out a bizarre two-page "sin list" that literally calls children a "deadly sin." Bottom line: This place feels more like jail than a campground. Unless you plan on absolute silence, you risk being thrown out. Stay at one of the nearby RV parks -- they're friendlier and offer better views.

While we were simply sitting outside and talking, the manager showed up unannounced, never introduced themselves, and immediately accused us of being too loud. Instead of handling the situation in a respectful or professional way, they became extremely aggressive and threatening. We were told to leave on the spot, and when we asked for clarification, they claimed that if we didn't leave immediately, we would be considered trespassing. The manager escalated further by yelling at us, and eventually called the sheriff. Adding to the hostility, the park even has something in writing called the "7 Deadly Sins of RV Camping" -- shockingly, one of those "sins" listed is children. That alone says a lot about how little regard they have for families or guest comfort. Unfortunately we will never know if our kids are considered "well behaved" in their eyes since we left before our kids could even set foot on this place. This place is absolutely not for families with children or for multiple families looking to relax and hang out together by the campfire. It seems they do not want people spending time outside their RVs at all, which defeats the whole purpose of camping. Everything said about the managers in the other reviews is true -- they are rude, unprofessional, and create a hostile environment for guests. This type of treatment is completely unacceptable and made our stay very unpleasant. Save yourself the stress -- don't waste your time or money here. There are plenty of other RV parks that treat their guests with courtesy and respect.

Great for tidepooling but not so much for swimming. Seriously. Don't do it. * Chimney Rock Trail is a relatively low effort for high reward spot for some spectacular views. There's plenty of other places to check out, but this should help get you started. Enjoy!

The store is well stocked and there's lot of activities on-site so the kids were occupied/entertained. The camp kitchen is awesome. Cook and grill all you want. There's outlets if you want to run a rice cooker or instant pot. Hay ride is a nice event and lets you see the whole park. My daughter loved the gem mining. The gems are bigger in these bags than any other that we've done before. We came here in September, and despite advertising a heated pool. The pool was filled with freshly melted glaciers. We still swam, but couldn't do it longer than 15 minutes. The hot tub was hot, that's nice. If your site is situated on the North West side of the park, you will be overcome with a stench of farm animal feces from the petting zoo. The smell is persistent, not just when a breeze comes through. But you weirdly get used to the smell very quickly. It was bad when we got there, and then you stop noticing it. If you leave the area for a couple of hours and come back. It becomes evident again for a little while... The street lights are BRIGHT and stay on the entire night. The tent sites closest to the driveway are most affected. It's probably not a problem if you booked a cabin. Tent sites close to the driveway can be an issue. Overall, it was fine. Good enough where I would try another KOA again. This particular one again? MAYBE.

I came here this past weekend to attend the annual Bodega Bay Fisherman's Festival for the second time. Enjoyed the boat parade, helicopter display, interacting with starfish and other sea creatures, and live music by multiple bands on a beautiful Sunday afternoon. The nearby camping area looked less than desirable. But as an event space, it's not bad at all, offering lovely views looking out onto the water, especially near the boating facility, while fitting a multitude of food and merchandise vendor tents on site.

So the wife booked this place. For a campground that's full, there were a lot of open spots. Weird…read more I guess online reservations are taking the spots even though they're not showing up. We had slots 27 and 29. One row from the water. We were just a short walk to the bathroom. Bathrooms were fine. I did not use the showers because I forgot the quarters. We had water hook up for slot 29. Remember not all spots have water. Also this place is not full hook ups. So be prepared. They do have a dumping station but that cost $7 bucks. Not bad plus they have a water hose for cleaning at the dump station. As for the stay, I really enjoyed our spot. The water when it receded, was safe enough for my kids to play and look for sea life. Easy to find a red rock crab or monkey face eel. Also plenty of baby crabs under the rocks. The views were amazing. The girls went out on hikes while I was out crabbing. Fun times for sure. They do have a generator rule. You can run them from 8am to 8pm. I might have ran mine past the time because it was windy and cold and I was not about to make my kids suffer. I did have a quiet generator which helped keep me out of trouble. Would I come back? You betcha. Everyone I talked to were nice.
