Called Lawless pretty last minute, and Drew and his team were extremely accommodating. Had just finished refinishing my floors with another company and only had one week before I had to be out of my rental and into my new condo. Drew was able to meet me the next day (Saturday) after I called for a quote and was able to start first thing Monday morning. The project was a living area/kitchen, two bedrooms and a bathroom, plus he power cleaned my back porch. Drew was not shy on giving his feedback, some of which was simply a difference in taste (he said he personally wouldn't have used such a dark color in the living area, but I love the way it turned out) and some of which was good advice that I took (was toying around with some ceiling colors, but he talked me into pure white, which he was totally right on). Overall, project took 3 or 4 days (it was a few months ago now, so I can't remember exactly), but I was all ready to move in on time. Great experience and great team. Best painters I've ever worked with! We found Drew Lawless in Yelp, met him to get an estimate on our condo. High ceilings, open duct work and girders, removing wall paper (it turned out to be contact paper!), and covering some dark colored walls and awful wall mural designs were the challenges. We were impressed with his understanding of what we wanted and his attention to detail, so we agreed to go ahead with him. He recommended paints to match the colors we wanted and made excellent recommendations on what color to use where. He showed us samples on the walls, so we could better decide which colors we wanted. On time and on budget the work was completed a few days later. Two bedrooms, two baths, kitchen, hallway and foyer. As we wanted, chair rails were removed, without a trace. Other fixtures (electric switch covers, shelving, curtain rods, etc) were removed and replaced per our requests, all professionally, cleanly and without any damage. Drew and his crew were immaculate, efficient, and delightful to work with. They left the apartment spotless and looking fresh and airy. After talking to another contractor, Lawless painting offered the lowest price (about 50% less than the other contractor). It was a good deal and owner Drew seems professional. After they painted my condo, I drove back to the condo to meet with Drew. Odd thing was that he wasn't here, but asked me to leave the check at the front desk because he had to be somewhere else. Cool, not a big deal, so I left the check with the front desk person for Drew to pick it up. I had to leave out of state on that day, so I didn't get a chance to evaluate the paint job. One week later, I went back to the condo and noticed many areas were not painted smoothly (excessive paint drip, some areas didn't have enough paint, etc) and many paint drops dripped on the floors. On top of that, some shady things happened. 1) I noticed my freezer had empty freeze pop wrap and there were purple liquid marks on the closet door. Yes, the purple liquid marks were on top the fresh paint and no kids were at the condo. This tells me the contractors working there ate it without asking me. The principle wasn't the fact that they ate freeze pop, but because they took something without my permission. 2) The bathroom in the guestroom was not working as water was leaking out after I flushed it. The bathroom toilet was working the day before the paint job. What was weird was that after flushing it, the water level never went up, Then, I noticed that the water valve was shut off in the bathroom. At this point, I knew one of the contractor must have push the toilet too far to paint certain areas because water had already leaked and they mopped it up; shut the water valve off. I hired another contractor to fixed the toilet leak problem and they confirmed that the toilet was shifted over too far, which cause the leak. 3) RJ claims they want to make sure I"m satisfied and will come back and so touch-up. After several promises stating they would come back on X days, they never did and eventually never communicated with me on any follow up via calls/text messages, etc Pros: - low price Cons: - false promises - paint quality is okay read more

seeing jane s's review (and then subsequently looking at her profile and seeing that she exclusively gives one-star reviews to businesses on yelp) inspired me to write this review. i met drew years ago and he helped me out with a small interior painting project. it wasn't a big job, but his work was f-lawless (see what i did there), timely, and totally professional - and the price he quoted me was actually less than two of the other contractors i called first. that said, i would totally recommend drew & crew to anyone in center city looking for solid craftsmanship when it comes to interior painting. i'm a big believer in supporting local businesses, especially the good ones. it's a shame that yelp lets any nutjob come on here and shit all over any business they happen to interact with on days they don't take their medication. read more

I was looking for a painter to do a small job on the exterior of my house. It was a small job, but was up very high so I could not reach it with my ladder. I called a lot of painters, but no one wanted the smallish job or was quoting outlandish prices. Drew got right back to me and was ready to go with a written estimate and start date. I then googled him (of course) and did not find much, except the one negative review on Yelp which REALLY put me off. It didn't seem to fit in with the way Drew presented himself so I asked him about it. He noted that the customer wanted the work done between the Christmas/New Years Holidays. Drew was not available to work that week and made the comment "Even if you paid me double, I could not get guys to work that week'. It was then misinterpreted as " I cant start your job unless you pay me double". I am not saying this is what actually happened...I was not there, but this was the response I got from Drew. Drew then gave me a reasonable written estimate and a start date. He specified which materials he would use and exactly which areas would be painted. I took a chance and hired Drew. Drew showed up exactly on time on the date with his helper. He then began the work in a very professional manner by tarping off my new roof shingles. They did not get 1 drop of paint on my new shingles. They struggled to clean off my chimney which had a rust bleed through from the liner. It could not be washed off, but Drew and his helper made a strong attempt. They were able to get the paint to cover perfectly in the end but this took more work than anticipated and Drew did not try to jack me with an upcharge. Another unexpected challenge was that the stucco on my house is old and began to crumble when they hit it with the rollers. Drew quickly recognized the issue and brought it to my attention. He was able to switch to spray gear and was gentle on the stucco resulting in a flawless paint job. Drew went the extra mile and disassembled my gutters in order to get paint behind the downspouts .This is an area no one would even see...and I would never have thought about doing that had I done the job myself. But they did a COMPLETE and totally professional job throughout. The 'small job' took a full day and the result was much better than expected. I paid the estimated price as agreed and it was finished. I am now considering hiring Drew to do one side of my house every year as I cannot afford to repaint the whole place at once. Drew said he could work something out on that. I would not hesitate to hire his company in the future. He is by far the most responsive, professional, courteous and reasonably priced painter in the Philly area. It does NOT get better than this. read more

Jenna Lawless is amazing! I hired her to do an interior painting job on short order. She returned my call promptly, showed up on time, gave me a precise and reasonable estimate, and completed the job exactly as described. Actually she went above and beyond: touching up trim, sending text updates with photos, etc. My house looks wonderful and cleaner than when she started the job! I saw Drew's van in the Graduate Hospital area one day and decided to give him a call and see if he could finish up some work we had at our house. He came over the next day (a Friday) for an estimate, gave us a very reasonable price and said he would do it on Monday! We were expecting to have to wait a week so we were pleasantly surprised. Unfortunately on Sunday he called me and asked if Tuesday would be okay as he was slammed on Monday, which was fine. He and his team did a great job. I asked them to come over at 8:15am and they were there setting up at 8:05am. Drew walked his guys through the house and told them what to do and made sure to ask if I had any comments before I had to go to work. Jenna Lawless saved us! My husband and I had a very large job done by a contractor who walked off the project, refusing to finish. One of the issues that the contractor refused to correct was the horrible paint job in the brand new addition powder room. I called Lawless Painting and Jenna Lawless called me back right away and we met to review the project a few days later. She quoted me for the paint job as well as a few other items. Due to the messiness with the contractor, we decided to just start with the painting. We made plans with Jenna who came out a few days after we agreed on a price, etc. She was there for prep on Friday and painting on Saturday. She saved the bathroom!! To Drew Spectacular, incredible, and amazing does not begin to describe the astounding paint job you completed for me. You should change the name of your company from Lawless Painting to The Leonardo Da Vinci Painting Company because the work you do is far beyond regular commercial painting, it crosses over into the realm of pure artistry. The water damaged corner of the bathroom looks as if you ripped out and replaced all the drywall. I did not think it would ever look brand new again, but it looks as good as it did when it was built 15 years ago. The same comment for all the cracked vent corners that now look impeccable. The light gray color you selected was perfect. I do not care for off white but the light gray is a warm, rich, attractive color that everyone will enjoy, much better than either bright or off white. Your decision to use the bright white in the walk in closet was a master stroke. When you walk into the closet from the living room it is striking, it looks even larger and brighter in what is normally a dark little room. All the above is not even the best part of the job. That distinction belongs to the painting of the doors. I have seen dozens of door painting jobs where the paint is slapped on with runs and drips, pooling in the grooves, visible brush strokes and brush filaments embedded in the paint with such a thick layer of paint that the doors looks like they are made of plastic instead of wood. None of that is present in a Lawless door painting job. The doors look like they were sent to a factory, stripped down to the bare wood and finished on a mechanized spray painting machine. The beautiful grain of the wood is visible from across the room and not a single imperfection in the paint can be found even in the most microscopic groove or in the angled molding or panels. Every aspect of the job was completed exactly as promised and on schedule. After searching 2000 square feet of painted surface for a drip, run or missed spot, I concluded I was not going to find one. At this point I am not even sure that using a microscope I could find a flaw at the molecular level. You are a craftsman of superior skill and knowledge and I consider myself fortunate to have found you. From John read more

We used these painters to paint our ceilings and a hard to reach spot in our stairwell back in the Fall. While they did the job they were hired for, I think it could've been done better for what we paid. The more I look, the more I am finding imperfections.The small/low height area of the ceiling in our 2nd floor hallway has paint streaks. While they are white, I can visibly see streaks. At first glance they seemed to have cleaned up after themselves but later that day, I found paint dust in blatantly visible areas all around the first floor, leading me to believe that they didn't really look around much when cleaning up. We also purchased a can of paint for them to use for the hard to reach spot and they took it. When we did the walk through, the guy said he would bring it back but he never did. And just the other day I noticed tiny specks of that color paint on our hardwood floors. This job was basic so I was surprised to find any of this but I guess next time we need painters, we'll look elsewhere. read more

I hired Drew to assist in a large-scale renovation project after finding him on Yelp. We basically needed the interior of our entire house painted along the window trim outside, and we also asked him to expose two brick walls. He had a professional estimate to us within a day and began work almost immediately in September. Not only did he do an incredible job with the painting and brick exposure, but also served as a de facto contractor of sorts and assisted us with many other carpentry projects. He consistently went over and above to help us with everything we needed, from finding us a good electrician and tile specialist to overseeing the installation of our new bathroom vanity. He understands construction and is a perfectionist by nature. The office manager, RJ, is organized, upbeat, and friendly. His crew was respectful of our property and did their best to make sure that trash, dust, and debris were either prevented or properly cleaned out. Lawless painting was truly a beam of light in an otherwise stressful house rehab, as several other workman we contracted could not come close to their professionalism, workmanship, and customer service.
