When I decided I needed a lawyer I was really concerned about finding a quality lawyer who could get the job done, but one that was not too expensive. Plus they needed to be in my area since I would have to take leave work to meet with them as necessary. I decided to at least meet with Fadi to get the ball rolling and see how he felt about my case. After meeting with Fadi and getting an estimate of what it would cost to take my case, I made a couple of calls to a couple of other lawyers in the area, as well as some friends in the field who live out of state. Not only did I find I got a good price, but one lawyer I spoke with said she wouldn't be able to provide me with services as the case was too difficult. I have to admit that at first, my wife and I were a bit skeptical about Law22. Many other attorneys were willing to see us for free, but Law22 has a policy of paying $22 for the initial consultation. And we were sort of worried that this Harvard attorney was going to be pretentious and unhelpful. But we figured to give it a try anyway. All our doubts were erased though as soon as we met the attorney, Fadi Amer. He is intense, passionate, and extremely methodical, and yet (and perhaps strangely) we immediately felt at ease with him. His thinking is totally outside the box, and what we particularly loved was that he, unlike the other attorneys we met, was not pushing us towards bankruptcy. Instead he looked at our overall financial picture and then told us all the options that we had. He even suggested that we see more attorneys to make sure that there were not any other options that he did not think of. We felt like Fadi really cared about us and our situation and gave us personalized advice based on our situation not his bottom line. Nothing like the other attorneys we saw us for free, but were just interested in making the sale. Can't even begin to explain how helpful, professional and friendly Fadi and his team are. After making a horrible decision and moving into what turned out to be a crime infested apt complex in Canoga Park where we had our cars burglarized TWICE, and experienced a rash of apt burglaries. We were desperate in getting out of our 1 year lease at this place. The apt complex bullied us and said we couldn't move out unless we payed for the entire year upfront. Keep in mind we were only there for 3 months. We searched yelp like we always do to find the best possible lawyer for our situation. Law22 had a crazy good 5 star rating so we decided to set up a consultation. Even though Fadi doesn't specialize in this type of law he bent over backwards to help us out. During our consultation which was only like 20 minutes he had already drafted a letter to send to the apt complex. We went to Fadi for help with my immigration papers. I spent a total of 1 hour with Fadi on 2 different occasions. At the first meeting, he guided me as to what forms I needed to complete, so that things would move along as quickly as possible, and I would not have to waste time responding to items I had neglected to send in. My mom needed help in the "I need to find a great personal injury lawyer " department. Being that I know nothing in that field, and I'm a Yelpie, i decided to Yelp it just for fun. I pulled up some names in her area and Law22 came up. After my mother dealt with a bunch of law men talking gobble-dee goop at her, I was determined to help her find good, knowledgeable people that were the complete opposite of other lawyers she had dealt with in the past. When we went into Law22, our family's financial situation was a total mess!, we had huge credit card debts, 2 lawsuits with a wage garnishment, and over a $150K on our second mortgage. I found Law 22 here on Yelp on a day when I had literally exhausted all other options of not having to bring a lawyer into the picture with the (preface: noncriminal) scenario I had been dealing with. I was (as my roommate will tell you because she could hear me through the walls) sobbing in my room, down on my hands and knees. Frustrated, angry, hurt, grinding my teeth, out of options and feeling helpless (a perfect storm for an ambulance chaser to take advantage of, mind you). It sounds dramatic now, but looking back, I'm not even sure how I was able to summon the energy to lift my fingers, reach for my laptop and search keywords like "lawyer". Anyhow, Law 22 popped up among the first. Normally I'd search further, take at least 5 search results in, and then make a decision. Maybe these people and their five-star glowing reviews had easier, less complex and messy issues than mine. Maybe they were hired to write the reviews. I was burned and trusting no one but against my better judgment, my devil's advocate made me pick up the phone. Enter: the most gentle, reassuring (and intelligent) voice you could possibly hear when calling for help: "Hello, Law Twent----", followed by me trying to accurately encapsulate, using my best version of Law & Order legal lingo, a year's plus worth of, "They said this. Then I did this. And then this happened, and then!!!!...and I was like WHAT?!" Magically, the stranger on the other end listened, and even made the "ohh...oh wow...I'm so sorry" sound effects. And while I was pretty sure he wasn't the lawyer (and if he was, what kind of a "lawyer answers his own phone" operation was this exactly?!), I needed to be heard, and I was so grateful he gave me that space to get it all out there. After I was done with my blubbering rant, we moved to the logistics. They could see me that day for a consultation. Upon finally arriving (LATE Friday afternoon, shortly before closing, mind you), I was greeted warmly in the reception area by two professional women (it was a pleasant surprise to see it wasn't an all-male biz) and offered water and a clipboard to fill out some preliminary info and to pay my $22 consultation fee (really, that's the deal, no schtik-iness involved I'm pleased to report). We chit-chatted a bit. Turns out one of the women was the wife of the lawyer I'd be meeting with. She was doing an internship with the firm while she went to USC to complete her MBA. Fancy! Right off the bat, I felt at ease knowing I was working with smarty pants who were even married to other smarty pants. I finally meet with Fadi, who reminds me of my favorite pediatrician from childhood - I knew seeing him usually meant a scary vaccination or throat swab, but I always looked forward to being in his warm, reassuring presence. Fadi is a no-nonsense, sharp, but jovial big-picture thinker. In just a few words from me, he was able to appreciate the complexity of my issue and arrive at a plan to resolve the multiple painpoints there were to tackle. What's even better is that exactly as he had predicted his plan would work - it did, even though I was slightly skeptical of the strategy he had proposed during our consultation. Lets just say, I went in hoping to solve one problem, and left feeling clarity on literally ever issue I had faced and ever would. After our initial consultation, the rest of the work we did together was by phone or over email. The entire time, Fadi was very cautious and transparent with the time he spent on my case, while being communicative in a timely way and realistic about the scenario. He was careful not to promise me the moon and under-deliver with florescent lighting, so to speak. I am now at the end of this ordeal, and I can say with 100% conviction that I couldn't have gotten this far without his expertise. I wouldn't even call him a lawyer, he is a legal ninja with a sixth sense I'm pretty sure they don't teach you in law school, even at Harvard, where he graduated. Law 22 is where it's at. Their mission is to provide quality legal services at below-market average rates, and after my experience with them, I can say, in earnest, that I wish more establishments of their kind existed nationwide, if not worldwide. Warning: If you sign on with them after your initial consultation, don't go into it thinking you can just rest on your laurels and watch them wave a magic wand to fix things for you. There are no gimmicks to their services, and because they are working at below market rate, you are not getting ALL the bells and whistles of a lawyer you'd pay full price having spoon feed you through your problem. That said, so long as you are willing to cooperate with their advice, and do a little bit of leg work yourself, you are golden. Bottom line, visit them. I first went to see Mr. Amer when a neighbor filed for a restraining order against my husband. Mr. Amer suggested at that time that he thought my husband could handle the case himself and we didn't need a lawyer. I liked him immediately. A few weeks went by and the situation changed. We had been having serious problems with a neighbor for 2 years. We hoped we would be able to resolve it directly with him, but he wasn't interested in resolving the issues. We made attempts to mediate, he refused. He was upset that we and some other neighbors had reported him for encroaching on public parkland. The neighbor filed a restraining order against my husband claiming that my husband tried to run him over and was suing us for $9,000.00. We believed, in retaliation for reporting him. We hired Mr. Amer and wished we had hired him a year earlier. It would have been easy for us to get caught up so many other aspects of the case that judges don't want to hear. Mr. Amer was able to focus on the issues, arrange for declarations, gather the evidence, and present the case. We felt that it was necessary to hire an attorney because the plaintiff was not providing any evidence and didn't mind lying. If we had handled the case on our own we would not have know when to object, how to cross examine him , cross examine any witnesses he may have presented or audit and question in detail documents, etc. Mr. Amer won our case. The judge denied the request for a 3 year restraining order against my husband and we did not have to pay him legal fees. Mr. Amer was very patient dealing with my husband, who wanted to question everything. He was responsive to our calls and e-mails, he did a lot of research and preparation for our case. It was such a relief not to go into court without legal support. Mr. Amer listens, is patient, professional, kind and honest. I could see the relief on my husband's face when it was over. Mr. Amer made a stressful and frustrating experience easier. I found Mr. Amer on YELP-thank you to the people who wrote reviews. Mr. Amer's fees are very reasonable. If you have doubts, look around. Hiring an attorney can be expensive, not hiring an attorney can be more expensive in some cases. If we ever need legal advice or need to hire a lawyer again, we would hire Mr. Amer.
