There are a few options for lounges at GRU Domestic Terminal 2, but they're all quite small and get full very fast. To my surprise, Plaza Premium Lounge provided a pleasantly quiet respite from the hustle and bustle of GRU airport. For breakfast there was eggs, pão de queijo, various cold cuts of meat and cheese. For drinks, there's a fridge with cold beverages, a wine bar that's also open during breakfast hours, and coffee machines. Previously I went to the GOL domestic lounge which was super crowded and there was a long queue for the coffee machine. Here? No queue! Fantastic. The most wonderful thing about the lounge, I feel, is the large windows that provide you a great view of the runway/planes. I find it fun to plane watch while eating or sipping on a beverage. I had 6 hours to kill time before my flight and it's such a good deal to be able to get some zzzs in, shower, grab a cup of coffee and some pastries and/or work on your laptop. It costs R $55 (Brazilian Real) per hora or hour. Or you can avail of the VIP service (shower, lounge amenities, food, wifi, etc.) for 3, 6, or 12 hours. You can also pay for just the shower if all you need is a quick refresh.

This lounge is a perfect place to relax before your flight- the lounge offers relax seating that overlooks the airport on the second floor. Plus seating at the bar or in quiet areas. The lounge offers a full bar. You can help yourself to wine and champagne. Or you can have the bartender make you a cocktail or a mocktail. The cocktails made by the bartender were excellent- the bartender mentioned that he has been bartending at the lounge for 7 years. Plus the lounge offers soda, beer and coffee machines- including espresso. For food, the lounge offers an array of local entrees. In addition, at the buffet you can find appetizers that you would find at bars in brazil, cheese, salads and more. Also, there are some soup and desserts to compliment your meal. The food seemed to be changed and replaced often. The lounge also offers amenities beyond food and drinks- the lounge has showers for all customers. Also for a nominal amount, you can get a massage while you wait for your flight. The lounge was a perfect place to relax in before my long international flight.

You walk straight through the restaurant and then make a left to go down the stairs to bring you to this speakeasy. I've always been a fan of speakeasies. There's something special about the dim lighting, the craft cocktails made with care, the elegance, and the nod to Prohibition times. SubAstor delivered. We sat at a small table in the middle of the bar and the service we received was great. I tried two cocktails, one of which was gin-based, and they were both 5/5. If you're looking for a romantic bar with some great ambiance, SubAstor is a great place to check out. It was one of my favorite bars I visited during my trip to Brazil.

The bar is very well decorated with hints of speakeasy inspirations, a beautifully lit bar balcony and comfortable seating arrangements. With decent ambience music and perfectly lit settings, the bar as all the makings of a winner but however when it comes to the drinks, it falls a tad bit short, especially if you have been drinking at some of the fantastic bars in São Paulo like Boca de Ouro & Frank. Recently the winner of the best drinks menu and under the supervision of an italian bartender, Fabio LaPietra, SubAstor is focussed to serving a stylish, albeit "lighter' & a more tropical version of drinks. They have a cube with around 24 drinks, all drinks on the cube priced at R$ 29 (as of 19/11/2015) most of which are house versions of the famous classics. I tried 2 drinks from the cube - Kentucky-Tivo (Bourbon based drink) and Ceará Vs. 007 (house version of Vesper) - the Kentucky-Tivo was beautiful to look at but a bit boring to drink with bourbon almost missing, the Ceará Vs. 007 was much better and definitely made up for the Kentucky-Tivo dullness. Just to try, I ordered a Manhattan with Woodford Reserve (they charge R$ 40 for this) and it was good, not excellent but it was good. SubAstir is a cool bar, a bar where you can hang out with friends who aren't so familiar with cocktails, you can bring a date here (get in early, if you want to sit) - however the popularity of the place leads it to getting overcrowded especially Thu-Fri-Sat and the due to overcrowding service tends to get a bit slow. Fabio is a great bartender but he is faced with a full house almost every evening and it gets difficult for him to make/supervise the bar 100%. I would recommend SubAstor to newbies, for dates, for a 'lighter' bar experience.

I was actually on my way to a bookstore but my Uber driver dropped me off right in front of this…read moreplace and when I peered inside, I noticed how cool it looked and asked the staff out front if it was okay if I could go inside to get a drink. Upon entering, I was greeted by inside staff who asked for documentation. Now, being that it was my first time in Brasil, I did not know that when they ask for documentation, they are asking for ID. One of the reasons they asked is so they could link a blank card to my name. Receiving a card that is to be used to calculate and hold the items you order during your stay at the bar or restaurant is very common here in Brasil. At the end of your service, you show the card to the person at the register to checkout and pay. Paying until the end is also very common in Brasil, so if you are at a bar and you are ordering a first round of drinks, you won't pay until you're done. Another reason why they have the cards per person is so that if you arrived in a group and when it came down to paying, they wouldn't need to split the check evenly, rather you will only pay for what you ordered or had. This idea is great for large groups where someone may only have had a drink or an appetizer while other may have ordered a full meal and then some. Typically in most situations when the bill comes, groups would split evenly but this makes it more fair and easier for someone who may need to head out earlier to pay for their order without interrupting the rest of the group. Pretty genius idea - don't know why places in the U.S. have not started to do something similar. I sat at the bar which had a really awesome backlit mirror and dimly lit mood lighting with cool decor and collection of bottles and garnishes. The seats were comfortable and the mood of the bar was a vibe in itself. Open the old VHS box (I had *The Bugs Life* - I really love how they worked these into the aesthetic for a more cool nostalgic feeling) which contains the QR code to view the cardapio (menu). There is a drink menu and a food menu. I had the honor of meeting with the Chilean owner himself who helped me order and could tell me about his cinema, restaurant, and bar in English. He suggested I try the Macunaima cocktail which contains cachaça, limão, Carole, and fernet. For food, the Crudo Mediterrâneo which contains piece do die, avocado, pickles de cebola rosa e supreme de laranja Bahia, acompanha facia de pão tostado. These were marvelous recommendations as I loved both! The food was to die for - so many amazing flavors were in that dish and the drink was unique but in the way I like my drinks to taste. I loved everything so much that I wanted to come back another time during my stay, but I was unable to make it back out :/ This place is part movie theatre, part bar, part restaurant, and part music event space (music events typically take place on weekends). I would have loved to catch a film here and then head to the bar for a drink or to have dinner after and vice versa. Will definitely be coming back next time I am in SP, such a great first-time experience!
