The latest fragrances for men and women are generally very affordable in the UK. The Perfume Gallery adds another notch to this bedpost because everything is tax free. It's also not often that a gift of a fragrance is frowned upon, especially if it's a fragrance by one of the world's big names. There is NO WAY to avoid the Duty Free shops at London Heathrow Airport. The duty free area is…read moremassive - kind of like an American mall except it's louder and more garish than most malls. There's lots of noise and bright lights so it's not a particularly pleasant area to wait until you get a gate assignment. The duty free area includes ALL of the high-end retail chains (including many foreign based retailers I've never heard of). If you're a shopper or like to browse, this area would be like nivarana to you. If you're just interested in an easy connection/departure (like me), this is not a "happy place".

You definitely cannot peruse the merchandise without someone trying to show you something. The process kind of reminded of going to a car dealership and being bombarded by a bunch of salespeople. We were able to make some great purchases and the salespeople were actually very helpful and patient. There was a large selection of many of the brands that I know and love, so it was great to purchase them for slightly less. The value of the merchandise appeared good. You could probably get it cheaper on ebay but you wouldn't be confident it wasn't a fake - I've used loads of perfumes from Beauty Base and they are definitely genuine. My local outlet also has cosmetics, skincare and men's fragrances, all at discount prices. Newer perfumes don't have as much of a discount but are still good value.

It's a dinky little shop with a bell that rings when a customer arrives. It is one of the smallest shops in the city yet has so much stuff for sale. As the name suggests it sells little gifts, wrapping paper, cards and luxury stationary. It also has some more random things too like mugs, jewellery and joke-shop style gags. It sounds like a bit of a mix-mash of things but if you're in the area it's worth a trip to pick up some lovely cards and gift bags. It always smells like perfume or incense and the ladies working there are very sweet, all older women who are really helpful and pleasant.
