I love Mexican restaurants so I really wanted to like Oscar's, but after trying it a few times I…read moremay have to call it quits. I called in my order and ordered a fish burrito because I was traveling and wanted to get back on the road. They said I had to pay over the phone but I noticed the price was higher than the menu price on the website. I figured there may have been a price discrepancy or a to-go fee or something. When I pulled up to get my food, the cashier handed me a bowl. Somehow, she thought I wanted to order a fish burrito bowl instead of a fish burrito, after I clearly stated I wanted a fish burrito. That explained the price difference. I was in a hurry, so I was disappointed that I had to wait for them to remake my order once I got there. The burrito itself had plenty of crispy, fried fish and cabbage but the pico threw off the taste. There was a bitterness from the tomatoes that made it difficult to eat after a few bites. I tried to cover it up with their self-serve salsas, but those weren't great either. One of my favorite types of salsa is an avocado salsa, but not Oscar's. Not enough flavor and too runny. Almost all of their salsas were too runny. The burrito also contained cilantro, which i love, but it started to taste like soap towards the end. I've tried their bean and cheese burrito as well, but i wouldn't order it again. There was a lot more beans than cheese, so the ratio was off. I also had an issue ordering rolled tacos online. Under rolled tacos, there is an option for cheese-only. I ordered it and paid for it, but when I got there they were confused by what I ordered and said they don't sell cheese rolled tacos. I asked for my money back since they couldn't provide what I ordered but seem hesitant to give me my money. Even when they overcharged me by giving me the wrong order, I had to request a refund of the difference. There is 1 more item that I'd like to try on their menu, but I'm thinking that it's not worth it. Especially since there are other, more authentic restaurants in the area with better food.

ABSOLUTE SLOP... I gave this restaurant three tries. The…read morefirst two attempts were mediocre at best, but I just got done eating the absolutely ***WORST*** Mexican "cuisine" meal of my life tonight, and trust me, I've eaten more Mexican food out than any other cuisine, stretching the entire United States, and a few in Mexico itself. I ordered al a carte as I typically do (for the variety and to see if they can do multiple dishes well). I received three main course items sloppily placed into a single container drowning in a chili powder and salt heavy sauce such that I could not taste the tortilla or protein...it all tasted like a chili powder salt lick (btw, I am NOT sensitive AT ALL to sodium...I have been home cooking for 3 decades and fully appreciate a well-seasoned dish). This was the worse slop I've ever eaten at a Mexican restaurant, and to boot, the meal cost $20 for three al a carte items and a small side of rice. At the counter, I asked for a small side of their spiciest salsa (which I always do) and they up-charged me $2 for a literally a single two ounce serving of what appeared to be their house salsa with a ton of guess what....a handful of chili powder in it. Their prices are absolute highway robbery for the quality of food they are serving, and it's quite obvious that since they are the only Mexican restaurant in this entire county, they are gouging the local Caucasian population that doesn't know any better. At this quality, their prices should be half of what they are, and if that were the case, you still wouldn't find me eating there. You'll get no more chances from me, you low-quality scam artists. Bye and good riddance.

Consider calling ahead to order as they are sometimes so busy it takes a little time to get your food. There's a little sitting area with shade where you can sit and eat or you can get it to go like we had to. Their chicken tacos are perf and even better with pico but don't need salsa verde to be awesome. I also really liked their tacos del pastor. They sell the smaller tacos here so I can usually eat around 3-4. The torta I got was delicious but it was crazy messy and I actually liked it better without the top bit of bread. The quesadilla reminds me of the ones I used to get at El Rancho Grande, my favorite homestyle Mexican restaurant before it closed down. Good memories. Today I ordered the lunch special: pulled pork barbecue with fresh homemade coleslaw, crispy French fries, and a Dr Pepper. Everything was delicious, fresh, and exactly what I was hoping for. I had the pleasure of meeting Kenzie, who provided excellent service, and the manager, Cory, who was friendly and welcoming. I learned that Kenzie makes all of the restaurant's homemade fried pies. Cory recommended the chocolate fried pie as one of his favorites, and after trying it, I completely agree--it was absolutely outstanding and the perfect way to finish the meal. The restaurant itself is older and a bit dated, but it is clean, well-maintained, and has a warm, hometown atmosphere. During my visit, there were plenty of locals dining in, and I noticed a steady stream of customers picking up to-go orders, which says a lot about the quality of the food. I have high standards when it comes to food, customer service, and cleanliness, and I'm happy to say this restaurant met every one of them. If you're looking for authentic barbecue and friendly service, I highly recommend giving this place a try. It's definitely worth the drive. John Lobato, DIT

As soon as you're seated, you'll have a tempting signboard presented at your table with every southern classic you can imagine. With entrees like fried chicken and catfish, endless sides like turnip greens, white beans, and just about anything you can imagine fried, and every kind of southern pie, it's all there. The catfish is magnificent, with that wonderfully gritty cornmeal batter surrounding flaky, tender fish. The complimentary roll is also delicious! And the servers are very nice here! But there are some downsides. The fried okra, my favorite southern side dish, is actually soft and soggy. No self respecting southerner would ever make soggy fried okra. It's about the worst I ever had. And the onion rings, which are hard to mess up, were burnt black and lacked flavor. They were inedible. The cashier is rude and doesn't have time for "thank you" or small talk or a smile or even giving you your receipt when nobody else is in line to pay their bill. That's just how it is. If you want good catfish, Sling Shot Charlie's will come through. But if you want a southern culinary experience that's enjoyable, there are much better places to have it!
