The chic part of this area. With great restaurants. Very enjoyable. Most places don't have parking. Street parking is a bit of a hustle, is better to park on a paid parking. read more

She is a 6 year old girl and this statue of her and her friends is actually located outside of the former home of the cartoonist, Quino. I stopped by for a photo myself while visiting the San Telmo Market. There was only one person in front of me waiting for a photo on a weekday afternoon, though other reviews mention that there can be a long line at times. There is also a small gift shop on this corner as well selling Mafalda merchandise.

Mafalda seems to perservere despite some sort of depression and defeatist attitude. It's no wonder that Buenos Aires has the highest number of psychotherapists per capita in the world! There's more people here in therapy than anywhere else in the world. You see Mafalda everywhere- and here you can pose next to her, with your own little rain cloud raining over you, or the scratched out words that seem to replace curse words. When I went, there was a long, long line to get a selfie with the Mafalda statue here. You can squeeze in between her and her friends for a great shot! The statue is on the street corner of San Telmo weekend fair, which is a fun way to get some arts and culture in. The statue is on a little square with even more artists' booths. It's a picturesque street corner! I wouldn't go out of my way for this statue, unless you're into Argentine comic strips, but it's a nice thing to run into while out taking a nice stroll along Chile Ave.

Along this street, you can always get a good view of the Obelisk, which is at the end of the street where it intersects 9 de Julio. When I went, the Buenos Aires government had shut off half the street with barriers so pedestrians could walk along in the middle of the street and take in the sights and scenes of BA. When I went, I saw chalk artists, cover bands, people acting like statues, tango dancers, a stand up comedian, a magician... There's so many things to take in here! It's cool that along this street are so many book shops, and theaters- it's a right brain workout just cruising up and down this street. Be sure to take in the street sculptures, including restaurant mascots and various famous people. I felt safe walking along here on a Saturday night. Places would be empty one moment, and packed full the next, as theaters would get out and lots of people show up at once. Be sure to bring some bills for tips, and be sure to always tip the musicians!
