If you're passing through and you want what may be the best Tex-Mex in Alvin, Las Flores is your spot. It's definitely on the Tex side, but only in the sense that there's a ton of grilled beef, cheese and guacamole on the menu. The underlying Mexican flavors aren't watered down at all and you can order around the beef and cheese if you prefer (though, go for it!). It's hard to name any particular standout dishes, because everything is good, starting with the salsa, which is tomato-ey and fresh, but has a good solid kick. Probably too spicy for the endless out-of-state transplants, but native Texans shouldn't have any issues. I tend to order the simple things and the comfort foods, so I can recommend the tacos al carbon and the nachos and queso if you're looking for some Tex-Mex basics, as well as the cheese enchiladas. They're all done perfectly. Tamales are solid as is the meaty sauce served with them. There's really not a ton to write. If you're looking for bold culinary choices to brag to your friends about, this isn't the place, but if you're looking for excellent, authentic Tex-Mex like you grew up on or like you've heard about coming from elsewhere, this is it. Can't recommend it enough for people who love authentic Tex-Mex. Service is friendly, portions are perfect, the flavors are classic across the board and it's centrally located in bustling downtown Alvin! Seriously, if you're looking for classic, really well done Tex-Mex, give it a shot. That's what it is, and it's very, very good at being exactly that. read more

Super clean, well spaced out due to the pandemic. You feel safe and all staff have masks. Limited menu but still plenty to choose from. Tortilla chips are light and crispy and very fresh and served with a tasty salsa with a gentle kick. Food came out very fast and piping hot and did not disappoint, the fajita Enceladus I had were delicious with lot of gooey cheese goodness and the refried beans and rice also yummy. For two people with two plates it came to $20 which was great value, would easily pay more! I left stuffed and satisfied, good stuff!! read more

Ordered dinner through Door Dash the other night and was very disappointed. I had ordered a Ceasar salad with steak and that was not what I received. What I ended up with was a container with iceberg lettuce and grilled steak only. No romaine lettuce, dressing, croutons or cheese. This was not a Ceasar salad. Also ordered a strawberry cheesecake and what I got was a slice of cake with little strawberry flavored syrup and no strawberries. I called to complain and was told there was no manager there to help me and they were fixing to close. I was told that someone would contact me the following day and I never received a call. I am very disappointed in the food and nonservice. I will not be eating from this restaurant again. Not quality food or service. read more

Though it may not be a destination point, Alvin, TX has its share of Mexican restaurants, which leaves you at no loss for your favorite fixes. Las Flores barely exists in a struggling strip center that has lots of closed businesses. Once people start realizing that Alvin is the new suburb of Houston, these places will see a renaissance. Las Flores, clearly a family owned business has the charming feel of someone's kitchen with spicy and heavenly scents emanating from the kitchen. At lunch on this day, I had the combo platter: 6 oz of chicken fajitas and four grilled shrimp with the requisite Mexican sides. The fajita meat was tender and tasty. With their tortillas, I made happy little loafs, but there were no bell peppers. The shrimp were great, but I did not realize they were bacon-wrapped, and I don't do bacon. I unraveled them and saw the shrimp were very large. Everything was tasty except for this butter sauce that came with the meal, which was way too salty. I'd return the next time I was working in the area. The family that runs the place is very sweet all around, and the value is a good one. read more

We go there often and, personally, consider it the best Mexican food in Alvin or close by. Their food is always at the proper temp, flavorful, and not dried out like some places we go locally. I also like how they dress their dishes with red onion upon request...looks nice and adds a great flavor! The wait staff is always very courteous and I tip them accordingly. The one thing that knocks this place down for me and what keeps my wife and I from going there more often is that their margaritas are only just ok. I consider the margaritas at Gordon Street Tavern the best around...maybe someone from Las Flores will take a little trip to GST to figure out what they are doing. All-in-all though, highly recommend Las Flores! read more

This use to be my favorite Mexican place in Alvin but something has changed more recently. You have to judge every place on their chips and salsa and while their chips are still good, their salsa has now failed. The red sauce is bland up front and spicy in the back and the green sauce taste like lettuce. The enchilada sauce is still enjoyable but the enchiladas them self were boring. Cheese was barely melted and the tortilla seemed like it wasn't warmed other than pouring the sauce over it. The beef they use in the fajitas are still good so stick with those. read more

But this was by far one of the most flavorful tamales I've had! All the food my family had was very flavorful and the staff was very friendly. Super inexpensive and yummy tex-mex. My favorites are the cheese enchilada dinner and the fajita quesadillas....so cheesy! The waitstaff have all worked there for years and they know and remember their customers. I know they sell beer but I'm not sure if they have a full bar since it's in Alvin. DO NOT SUPPORT THIS BUSINESS!!!-To start the service was incredibly slow and our table wasn't clean when we sat down and the chair was almost broken, I ordered a water and it legitimately tasted like chemicals to the point it upset my stomach. 1. For many years I either lived in, or worked, in Alvin. 2. In a five-day workweek, you could eat Mexican food everyday... at a different place. 3. Las Flores is a family-owned restaurant in an easily accessible location with abundant parking. Also, a little known hint is that if you need to run to the Post Office, it's catty-corner and the line is never long. 4. The food and service is very high quality. I've never been disappointed. You can come in, wait perhaps two minutes, be seated, order, be served, eat, and pay your bill, during a one-hour lunch and be back at your desk in 45-minutes. 5. The prices are very, very reasonable, and the selection is so large that even someone as picky as I am will find what they want easily. Bonus: 6. This is a family-owned restaurant, and the lady owner is very attractive. If I wasn't so shy, I would ask her name. But she is married to her husband, who is the co-owner. Overall: Highly recommended. If you're in Alvin and don't know where it is? There are two ways to find it: 1. South of Gordon Street and House; 2. "By where the cinema used to be;" or 3. This is our favorite Mexican food restaurant in the area. We moved to Friendswood a few years ago but still return to Las Flores in Alvin for our Mexican food fix. My husband loves their quesadillas and I love everything on the menu. Their chips and salsa are the best. Their wait staff have worked there for years and we all know them and them us. The food is fabulous. However, the napkins smell like fabric softner making them difficult to use. The smell is so strong that all you can smell is fabric softner as it takes away from the smell of the food. Sad. They need to use either paper napkins or stop using scented soap and fabric softner on the cloth napkins that you put up to your face. Smell gagged me. Had to leave restuarant. :( read more
