Will have to respectfully disagree with the critique of the temazcal that is showing up here as one star. It's remarkable to think of how little money my husband and I spent on our experience here ($40 per person in USD) to each receive a 2.5 hour service. The experience was about the ritual, and the knowledge of the women performing the ritual, who rightfully deserve to be compensated at least as much as we paid, for their work. As payment goes through the B&B, the tips were just as important in this setting as they would be at any place where you can directly pay the staff something extra.
The whole experience was powerful, cleansing and healing. They grow all the herbs right there in their garden and I am not an expert to judge the construction of the sweat lodge built in their garden, but it felt very effective and authentic.
Nothing about this experience felt cheap or chintzy, as the other reviewer mentioned. Having traveled to many countries that would be described as "third world" my understanding of the meaning of the word "chintzy" as used by the other reviewer, does not mean inauthentic to me - it's simply what the people can afford. A plastic alter does not make it any less meaningful. Discussing this experience with a local, they mentioned that most temazcals are private, for the family only. At this temazcal, we we were grateful to be welcomed into the hosts space and would recommend it to anyone who is looking for a true healing experience. The one star is left off this review is to point out that the message is soothing and relaxing, and someone who also wants a deep tissue massage would be better served by going to a licensed message therapist who can do adjustments, etc. read more
