It was really cool. A great place to stop and visit and tour. NO DRONES are allowed on the property on the Oregon or Washington side. Oregon wouldn't even allow us to enter. We told them weren't going to even take the drone out of the pick up. We were still told no. Washington we were still honest and told them we had the drone but weren't going to get it out. He inspected the truck throughly and let us in. Thank you so much. Because I had a lot of fun. Worth visiting overall…read more The viewing area where you can watch fish migrate through the glass windows was a bit underwhelming. There wasn't much to see during my visit--mostly green, murky water with little visible fish activity. The grassy area near the giant turbine and picnic tables offered good views of the dam, but it was surprisingly full of dog poop. There was enough of it that you had to watch where you stepped and carefully navigate around it to get a good vantage point for photos. Counter staff were very friendly and welcoming and were more than willing to inform and answer questions.

The Bridge of the Gods... now that's a name that carries some weight…read more And it should because long before this steel beauty ever stretched across the Columbia River Gorge, there was something else here. A real, honest-to-God land bridge. A massive landslide hundreds of years ago choked the river and let people cross on foot until the river fought back and tore it apart. The Native legends say the gods themselves had a hand in building it... and destroying it. Fast forward, and now you've got this 1926 cantilever bridge about 1,800 feet of steel hanging out over the Columbia, standing roughly 140 feet above the water like it's got something to prove. Now here's where it gets personal. Years back little younger, little dumber, definitely more ambitious I ran a marathon. And by "ran," I mean I survived it with forward motion and questionable decision-making. But the moment I remember? Crossing this bridge. No crazy wind that day. Just... calm. Which is rare out there. You're up high enough to feel it, but not fighting it. Just steady. You look out, and it's cliffs, rock, river, and sky all layered together like somebody took their time building the view. And that's the thing about this bridge it sneaks up on you. From a distance, it's all structure. Steel, angles, purpose. But when you're on it? It's exposure. You feel the height. You feel the space. Because of this we haven't been able to explore the entire place as we always run out of time or are tired of walking. Be sure to bring your binoculars if you're there to view the birds and other wildlife. The section near the parking lot is a raised levee that can get quite windy so keep that in mind. A lot of it is exposed to the sun as well, so wear sunblock if it's a sunny day. Some sections are wide and gravel, others are narrower and dirt paths. Also, some sections don't allow dogs, jogging or bike riding, so pay attention to the signage on whatever trail you're using. There's a pit toilet facility near the main parking lot.

This way we were able to do that and have our friends join us for dinner & a nice celebration. They've done a nice job of setting this building up for an intimate gathering during bad weather and I imagine during good weather you could really spread out and make it a beautiful location for an outdoor wedding or event. The big fireplace made for a beautiful backdrop to the autumn theme we had and kept the place nice and toasty, too! The people we worked with to coordinate the rental were friendly and supportive. There was a lady that met us there right before and right after the event to help make sure we'd remembered all the clean up items we needed to wrap up to get our deposit back. They had a nice kitchen to work with and, while we brought most of our stuff prepared--we appreciated that they had serving utensils, coffee pots, and other supplies to use in the kitchen if we needed them. I think the only challenge we bumped into was enough refrigerator space, but that was a minimal issue and partially our fault. We were going to bring a cooler and forgot to. How can you go wrong having dinner in the same room where Ulysses S. Grant dined with the family that ran the school that resided in this building back in the day? How cool is that? We definitely will consider using this location again. If you are considering renting it, I recommend you set up a time to go visit the building and check it out. That way you can take some pictures and do some planning and just enjoy the ambiance of the house.

I have illegally tucked in at the Delta Park region, near the two Residence and Courtyard Inns, but the proper way to enter is via NE 47th, by the Slough Watershed Council and Whitaker Ponds. Great memories... like your very own mini river.. private and peaceful...careful, for there are several shallow areas to avoid!

At Lacmas Lake, there are 17 parking signs for vehicles with boat trailers. The Parking authority is so strict at Wednesday 3pm with zero vehicles there that the sign must be enforced. This is review is nothing against parking officer, that person is doing their job. My review is against the rigid thinking as no harm was done and nobody was utilizing the spots but a sign is a must. Why doesn't common sense prevail because parking revenue is extra $ in City's coffers. Please see photo.
