It was pretty cheap for Finland. Still a lot more expensive than in the states, or in some other european countries, but it's Helsinki! Everything's expensive. Still, I found a nice vintage bathing suit for 12 euros, and a summer skirt for 7. That's about 1/10th of what things cost in the department stores, so I'd call it a wonderful bargain, and a fun place to poke around in the afternoon.

I searched all over Helsinki for any hippos in their natural habitat, but didn't see any. Maybe they're hiding under all that snow and ice. They're supposed to come from the town of Moominvalley. This store has quite a variety of things with the hippo stamped all over it. The hippo might be smiling, or laughing, where the angry little girl just scowls. This seems to be stuff for children- things like kids clothes, or toys, but you can still get nice stationary with the hippo on it. I guess if you're hungry hungry for hippos, this would be a good place to go. I'm totally clueless about this cartoon, but it's bigger than The Simpsons. They offer the DVDs here that should surely explain it, but they're all in Finnish. The clerks seem to be nice, and are attentive here. The store is clean, and located in the T2 of the HEL Airport in Vantaa. They offer a bunch of souvenirs of Finland, but they're all Moomin. This seems to be part of the Finnish national identity. If you're flying from Helsinki (HEL) to Moominvalley (MOO), this is the place to get stocked up. They have all your Moomin travel accessory needs covered.

It feels filled with wonder and history like a museum but cozy and inviting like someone's home. (There is even an adorable dog sleeping peacefully in shop). You will find women's clothing for all occasions and seasons and a wide array of accessories and underpinnings. There's even a men's section, which looked impressive too. Amazing selection aside, the owner is so knowledgeable and kind. She knows the origins of every piece in her shop. I stumbled upon the store by accident and ended up spending hours trying on wedding dresses and evening gowns, learning a lot about vintage clothing history in the process. There is an impressive amount of dead stock items too. I can't wait to return here, it was a really special place.

It's not even what I'd call reasonable. It's barely affordable when there is a sale. There. Now you know. Right? Wrong. However, the clothes are very well-made (for those 2.5 weeks they won't fade, tear, or shrink), very cute (for those 2.5 weeks your kid will look like a freaking supermodel), and will make your heart melt (for those 2.5 weeks, until you have to return to buy more clothes to fit his ever-expanding ass). Despite being a vicious cycle of spending money, I completely endorse shopping here. Especially if you have a child and not an infant. I think that for toddlers and older children who aren't doubling in size by the day this is a great place and well worth the money for children who are actually capable of crawling, walking, making eye contact...you see where I'm going with this. This is like a huge fancy shopping opportunity for demanding shoppers. You can shop for beautiful handbags, high-end clothing and shoes, or if you favor a certain domestic or international cosmetic brand, they have it. Don't forget souvenirs, toys, home goods and Finnish design items. The customer service department will ship things for you to destinations all over the world and help you with duty free shopping. Among many other notable things is a big Alko store. This is the government monopolized liquor store. So, if you find great delicatessen for lunch or dinner, you will also have the opportunity to purchase alcoholic beverages to go along with your meals. Really, if you want to spend time and money here, it is truly worth the trip, and everlasting experience while in Helsinki. The best thing at Stockman building is electronics store called Power that I just discovered last Summer. They sell variety of appliances, phones and so on. Found a table phone for my mom who needed to replace her old one. She uses it for Skype calls from the USA. Customer service at this place is priceless. The young men helping me during my visits were so knowledgeable, patient and friendly. One nice traditional point about Stockman is, that they have a clock on the Alexanterinkatu side of their many entrances. That is famous among all people living in Helsinki. When meeting friends, we used to say: "Meet me under the Stockman's clock." Happy shopping and maybe I will see you there.

I have made two glass items here over the years in visiting Raseborg castle (interesting 13th/14th…read morecentury castle) and Fiskars (beautiful site of original Fiskars factory, with museum, shops, amazing playground, waterway, interesting foods). Nestled in the Fiskars area is Bianco Blu, a glassblowing factory run by Tarmo Maaronen. Tarmo is wonderfully nice and has a sense of creativity and fun that he shares with those coming to make glass items. My first piece was a bird and I pulled with the tongs a little harder than I should have, which gave me a slightly odd but interesting little blue birdy. My second bird was years later and green. Tarmo made me feel perfectly at ease, he is an incredibly sweet person. There were other items on display at Bianco Blu, including little glass baubles that were inexpensive that the kids loved. After I made my first bird there, I was working for Nokia in the US. Tarmo's beautiful special edition blue and green baubles were made available in the Nokia store for Nokia employees to order, which was wonderful. Highly recommend the area and Bianco Blu!
