Most decidedly an ordinary Ethiopian joint in Kreuzberg, but was really happy to find it. Was quiet, quick, and friendly. Lamb tibs were great. Actually a little firmer in texture than I like but still somehow very tender. Heat added with just diced jalapeño (or similar?), which added heat while being refreshing. Could have been served with side of some kind of veggie, but that's just what other Ethiopian places do, so that's the only reason I thought of that. read more

Our waiter (and possibly the owner) was really friendly and helpful, explaining what everything was, and a bit about the culture. The food is super delicious!! Especially the dough of that base crepe ( I dont know how else one should call it). It looks like a crepe but it has a taste of real nice dark bread. Wow. I loved it! They also had this really good beer. I cannot remember the name but it had this nice amber color. Due to popularity one should reserve a table in advance. I must admit I am not used and not a fan of eating with my hands. I could smell the food on my hands for the next 3 days after eating at this resturant. Was not so happy about it. read more

Ethiopian food is one of my favorite foods. The first time I ate it in Austin, TX I could never forget the spongy yeast/sour dough tasting pancake, aka injera. Ethiopian food is not always the same, it depends on the restaurant and ambiance. This restaurant has the ambiance and very friendly staff. The prices are reasonable but one can find more reasonable Ethiopian restaurants here in Berlin. But not a deal breaker at all! The lighting at this place is low, which I actually enjoy a lot. And again, the staff is extremely nice, welcoming and attentive. We shared a 2 people platter, which comes with different vegetarian and non-vegetarian options, served on an injera. Initially, and as always, the platter seems like it would not be enough food, however, the injera is very filling and we did not finish the complete platter (even though we tried our best). There are of course a lot of vegetarian options and even vegetarian platters. Besides yummy food, they also serve alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages. The Ethiopians are famous for their coffee ceremonies and their coffees, I have not tried their coffee but would like to make it to their coffee ceremony one day. It takes place on the weekend. The exact time can be found on their website. I read and heard about the famous dju dju beer. So, I ordered one. To my surprise the beer comes with different flavors. Since I love passion fruit, I ordered a beer with passion fruit flavor. I was even more stunned, when the waiter brought a coconut shell and a beer bottle to our table. First he placed a wooden ring on our table, put the coconut shell on top of the ring and filled my beer into the "bowl". What an experience! Plus, I really liked the beer. It is a bit spendier than regular beer but totally worth trying. The place is located on a quiet side road with not enough parking during the weekend. Public transport might be a better option on the weekends. The restaurant has also enough space to either accommodate several large groups or many people on the weekend without having to reserve a table. Always a plus! I have only tried Ethiopian food once before and I liked it. This place is the real deal. It has great presentation and you are REALLY full by the end of the meal. Expect a lot of legumes and vegetarian friendly sides sitting amass a thin thin pancake. Also be prepared to devour the meal with your bare hands. It's a really fun dining experience and I would definitely suggest this place to go eat with a group of friends. It's an interactive meal in a straw hat-sombrero. read more

I'm not sure what to say here. I don't really know a lot about Ethiopian food. But a Eritrean friend used to cook for me and I vividly remember the amazing taste of berbere, and the feeling of my face melting from the spiciness. I also remember going to a lot of Ethiopian places in California and being absolutely amazed with how awesome and flavorful it was. So of course I wanted to try the highly-rated, authentic-looking Ethiopian place in Berlin. And it was delicious... But it just didn't compare to the memories I had of the cuisine. Also, it was not spicy at all. Maybe I ordered the wrong dish, but I got the mixed platter so it seems unlikely... It seems super-authentic though and the waitress was really nice. They also had Ghanan fruit beer which was awesome. So, 4 stars! read more

My boyfriend and I ate here during a weekend in February (2016). It was the first time for us both having Etiopian food - and omg it was so deliscious! The best we ate during our stay. We shared a plate containing several meat dishes and it was really tasty. We drank dju-dju mango beer to the food which I really recommend! I came to this place because of all the recommendations, but I got really disappointed. The (vegan) portions on the shared platter were SO tiny, that they felt like a starter. I've never experienced this before and I went out for ethiopian food in different countries and cities many times. Thankfully, the owner was happy to bring out some more food for free - I was very thankful for that. Apart from that, I had much better ethiopian food unfortunately. But service is very nice! Getting the food toke incredibly long, we spent nearly two hours waiting for our food. The waiters also weren't very helpful when we asked where our food was. The food, once we got it, tasted alright, the bread was stale. Overall it wasn't worth the wait. read more

The service ok: was fine, the food took time to come out, and when it finally arrived big baskets were impressive. Tasty and nice ambiance! They have more traditional tables in the back with wooden benches. The kitfo is what I normally order and it was delicious! I liked most dishes on the mixed meat platter and the waiter was very friendly. They also offer the coffee ceremony but since we went at night, I didn't try it. read more

Not the best Ethiopian I've ever had, but definitely the best I've had in Germany. Food a bit too salty for my tastes, but I do believe that is the "Germanized" version. I've enjoyed many Ethiopian restaurants around the world. The food here is only OK. The atmosphere is barely there. However they made themselves unforgettable by CHARGING for Njera. First time I've ever seen that. Massive weaksauce of character here, can do much better in Berlin. read more
