I can't do anything about this other than leave a review to warn others. My mother was here after a severe stroke that left her left side paralyzed and with aphasia, incontinence, and confusion. Let's start with the positives: Most of the nurses are incredible and are doing the best they can. There were a select few nurses that helped my my mother bathe and brushed her hair ad put it up in a ponytail to prevent further matting that occurred when she was in the ICU. Now for everything else. Within the first 48 hours of arriving, a nurse left a tourniquet on my mother's left arm for at least two hours. Not only could we not assess if this did any damage because her left side was already suffering from palsy due to the stroke, but it left an awful mark that I'm sure hurt. I asked them to document this incident but after looking at her medical records it looks like no one did that. Throughout her stay, I could tell when things were wrong. I would ask for a test to be run for, say, a UTI, and it took so much pushing and several days of my mother grimacing and white-knuckling the rail to get a test done at all, and then hours for antibiotics to be administered after results were back. The communication here is God awful. My mother was mostly deaf, and somehow it either wasn't in her chart or no one was reading it, because no one knew until I asked them to put a sign up in her room that said "hard of hearing." They lost her hearing aids, also, which certainly didn't help. Some nurses weren't aware of when she had infections or even that her left side was paralyzed. My mother's insurance stopped covering her stay at Landmark after about two/three weeks, and would not cover any more unless someone at Landmark said there were complications with her. No complications were reported, despite her developing MRSA pneumonia and having to be 24/7 restrained. The administration did their best to push her out of Landmark to a nursing home, and ended up not restraining her when they should have because in order for someone to be sent to a nursing home they have to have been out of restraints for at least 48 hours. My mother decannulated often due to the discomfort of the trachea and her lack of understanding as to the harm it caused. She needed 24/7 eyes on her, and they often had a nurse sitting at the door, but due to understaffing she couldn't always be there. My mother pulled out of her restraints countless times, or they weren't tight enough so she could pull herself up enough to take the cannula out. This contributed to her developing tracheal stenosis, a narrowing of her trachea, which caused her death due to acute respiratory failure the day she was transferred out of Landmark. Suffice to say, I don't recommend anyone stay at Landmark if you have serious issues. The administration simply does not care about you, and the nurses are too overwhelmed to do anything. If you have absolutely no choice in where your loved one ends up, and you HAVE to choose Landmark, I IMPLORE you to spend as much time with them as possible and to be a fierce and aggressive advocate for their health. You have to become an expert in their care whether you like it or not to make sure things are being done right. read more

They were very dedicated and professional. The hospital was short staffed, but the care my husband received was good! They had a motivated respiratory team and my husband made great strides getting off the ventilator and in getting his trach removed. Lakesha and Mrs. Hunt went over and beyond what was expected of them and I was very impressed and pleased by the services we received and witnessed. Thanks to all of you! read more

The food here sucks. They woke me up at 4:00 in the morning. Every morning just to change my wound dressing

I would never recommend this hospital to anyone. My loved one was transferred here after a hospitalization for continuation of IV therapy and treatment of a serious foot wound. No podiatrist or foot surgeon ever attended to him during his 22 day stay. They had assured us upon admission that he would be seen by any specialist if needed. It never happened. Minimal care with a poor outcome. read more

Landmark Hospitals - Hospitals Near Me - Athens, Georgia

The hospital staff is very nice and friendly, but the staff doctors are aloof and apparently don't communicate well with nursing staff or each other. Also, the nursing staff uses agency nurses who aren't familiar with the patients' progress and issues as opposed to regular full-time nursing staff would be expected to be. I was not pleased with the inconsistency of care my loved one received or the condescending attitude my family received by some of the physicians. I would not recommend this facility to anyone. read more

I can't say enough good things about this place. Before admittance Jessica went over and beyond necessary procedure to help my in-laws during they're transition. My father in law not a patient had many special needs that in no fashion did they need to accommodate. Not only did they accommodate his needs they took exceptional care of my mother in law. I highly recommend this hospital. The care and attention even after discharged was unbelievable. Thank you on a thousand different levels of appreciation. read more

I love everyone here they are so nice .I have had great care here twice now . l hope not to have to come back but if I need a hospital this is where I want to be . It is keep so nice and clean . The food is great . All my nurse's are very nice . Therapy people are right on spot . Like I put I love the very friendly environment it just help's you get better faster . The food isn't very good here. I know that hospital food doesn't have a great reputation, but (in my humble opinion) there ought to be minimum standards. How can a body get well without whole foods--like real grains, vegetables and actual fruit? I'm afraid money is the real driver when it comes to Landmark. Really, a plant-based health food diet could reverse many of the problems we patients face. See the documentary "Forks over Knives." read more

Worse medical facility yet. They contributed to the death of my loved one. The nurses lack not only the skills to help the patient but also the knowledge and empathy. The old nurse who is supposed to be a nurse manager on days needs to be terminated for all she does is gossip about the patients and the families in the hallways with the Medical Director. There are certain procedures only an RN can complete yet they employ LPN's. The nurses are lazy and incompetent and I had to give all the care myself or my loved one would go without. They totally disregarded physicians orders on all levels. No patient aides most of the time and the nurses all talk about the management team and how horrible they are. Social services were of no help along with the attending physician. Wound care was a joke and those nurses should be terminated also for they know nothing when it comes to the healing of the wounds and they do not even attend to the patient. Respiratory is also just as bad for they are heartless. I could go on and on. All of the staff should be suspended and their license revoked. Please do not admit your loved one to this facility. The Corporate Compliance Officer refused to meet with me to discuss these concerns. Instead, she hid behind emails which I am glad to share with anyone. I am so glad the CEO was finally fired just took losing a life to do. It also amazes me the Corporate compliance refused to meet with me and I can show you the emails from her and also how Doctor William K. Kapp III, the Founder, Chairman/CEO refused to discuss this matter. Landmark needs to be shut down for good. read more

Landmark Hospital in Athens is a facility that is clearly all about the money and not the best interest of the patient. As long a the insurance is paying them the provide care for the patients; if the insurance stop paying them they will do anything to inappropriately discharge the patient by any means necessary including putting the patient at risk. The Nursing Director Marie Saylor clearing looking out for the best interest of the money coming into the hospital... Setting up a conference call to have family members make a decision on what to do with their love one, not being sensitive to the family feelings of make a decision that could possible result in never seeing their love one again. They also make false accusations when your not moving quick enough for them saying your neglecting your love one when you've been totally involved in the patients care and decisions being made for the last 4 months. Again trying to get the patient out by any means necessary.... read more

Unfortunately this hospital needs much help. The nursing care is great. HOWEVER....the nurses have too many patients at a time. The nurse assistants have even more patients. The management is only concerned about money, my family member felt as if he were forced to stay even though he was ready( and his Dr said he could go) because everyone kept saying "your insurance was approved up through a certain day you can stay until then" He was walking and feeding himself what was he staying for???? Isnt that insurance fraud??? And to top it off while we were visiting him one day I witnessed the nurse manager arguing with a nurse in the hallway, she was raising her voice and rolling her head. HOW RUDE... we did not need to see that.. we were so embarrassed for that poor nurse. Hope to never ever set foot in there again. read more

The most unprofessional hospital I have ever come in contact with. We were transferred to Landmark from an outside hospital for antibiotic treatment for six weeks. We were told that we could only stay 2 or 3 weeks and daddy would have to go to a nursing home for the rest of his treatment. I asked to speak with social worker Brooke and they sent down the Chaplin, really, was daddy dying. We asked several times for Brooke or Jamie and they never would come see us about daddy. I thought that is what social workers do, speak with people regarding placement, etc. I must agree with the other complaints that Landmark is are all about the money and the not the patients or families. There are people walking around with pink hair (two nurses) how unprofessional is that. They play music and dance in the hallways in the mornings in a huge circle, who is seeing about the patients while they are having a daily party. Staff hollers down the hallways all during the day, I asked to speak with the head nurse several times and never addressed my concerns about daddy calling for help and waiting 2 and 3 hours for assistance. This place is out of control. The nurses all have six patients and at nighttime most the nurses are outside smoking. Even the security guard is outside smoking at night. There is a nonsmoking campus sign outside but all nurses and techs are outside on the grounds smoking several times throughout the night. (Who takes care of the patients). One of the nurses asked me if they could borrow a cigarette. We couldn't wait to get daddy home.. what a nightmare.. We have told our doctors about this horrible place. Please don't ever send someone you care about there. Its only a matter of time. read more

I was sent to Landmark in Athens from another hospital after spending 15 days in ICU. I was at Landmark for 67 days, January 17 thru March 23, 2016. In spite of being in very poor condition, I was able to recover with the help of the wonderful staff of doctors (Dr. Butt, Dr. Hearn), fabulous nurses (my favorites were Melissa, Cindy, and Chad, but the nurses were all absolutely first rate). Even the nurse technicians were outstanding and went above and beyond to make me feel comfortable. The PT crew (Clint and his team) taught me how to stand up, walk, and take care of myself again. In spite of a serious illness, I can't imagine ever having had better care anywhere else. I was being fed thru a tube for all but the last week at Landmark, but when I was able to eat again, the food wasn't all that bad. read more
