Gintherhof is an amazing farmhouse B&B run with love and care by Annalies and her family. Ehenbichl…read moreis a charming hamlet where all you'll hear is birds, the wind and maybe a pig from time to time - yet its 20-30 minutes away from Zugspitze, Neuschwanstein and the other tourist delights of southern Bavaria. The farmhouse is close to 800 years old - about the same age as the castle ruins high on the mountain. Yet everything is impeccably clean and well kept. The cows (3+ 1 impossibly cute calf) live in the barn/basement where you can greet them through the windows. Every morning they go out to the meadows and every night, they come home to sleep. Our room was very large with a sitting nook, king bed, private bath/shower, balcony overlooking the mountains/castle and walk in closet. We were told that the wood used in paneling the walls + ceiling is from special trees high in the Alps. The wood oils are good for your heart and ensure a restful sleep. Breakfast is included in your stay and it's a mighty spread!!! Cheese (made from local milk) cold cuts, freshly baked breads (5-7 types!), local eggs, homemade jam, wildflower honey and homemade yogurt too! You'll be encouraged to make sandwiches for lunch. And you'll be greeted with homemade schnapps, homemade cake, and a genuine welcome fom the family. You won't find better or more authentic hospitality anywhere else. The prices are extremely reasonable too. Our stay here was one of the highlights of our trip for sure!!

We ate dinner which was very good, stayed the night and also had breakfast which was also very good. The room was slightly outdated, but we didn't care, it was large, quiet and clean and the beds were comfortable. We chatted with the owners that night and in the morning. We told them we were going to go see some castles and asked where we could buy an umbrella (it was raining on and off). The owner was so sweet, she gave us one of her personal umbrella's to use. I would stay here again, it was clean, the price was fair and the food and owners were fantastic.

(In english 5 Seeland is 5 Lake District just in case you didn't know) The staff is very friendly, the food is amazing and fresh, they serve Andechs beer, and they speak good English. What else could you ask for??? Hahaha (I spoke in german to them as much as I could and they actually understood me). I've only been living her for about 6 months so yes; I'm proud of my german language skillz. As long as you try a little german the locals will love you for it even if they don't necessarily show it sometimes, if you know what I mean. ;). Anyways, as I was saying the food is just great as well as the ambiance of the place. My 5 year old son had the Käsespatzen (small noodles with cheese and roasted onions... Yummy) he just loves that stuff. My wife and I had the Ziegenkäse salad (goat cheese with salad on the side). Don't be fooled. This is more than just you typical cheese and salad type of a meal. It is specifically prepared Bavarian style where the cheese is baked in a wooden oven giving it a warm and soft taste making your taste buds go wild. Hope this helps someone make a decision on this authentic little Bavarian guest house.
