The water is not accessible from the sites...we were told it is a 60' cliff into the water but we didn't venture close enough to the edge to confirm that. Site 4 felt safer (since we had kids in our group) as it didn't back up to the edge. All of our sites had a little deck near the camper pad but our deck was in a little disrepair (some rotten boards). The sites had electric and water and all had fire rings, too. On the way to the sites (once we were inside the park) the road seemed overgrown and I was wondering if we were heading to the right place. It's definitely tucked away but was a peaceful, mostly empty (maybe because of the raininess of the weekend), campsite. The bathhouse was nice. The showers were a little small but the water was nice and HOT! There was a bit of cobwebs but overall, they really weren't too bad! There is a an area outside each shower with a bench and hooks for towels and clothes. The playground had tape around it (maybe from Covid?) so we didn't use that. There was a dumpster near the bathrooms. Our kids went on some trails, but we didn't go with them, so I can't comment on the trails. On the way out of town, we went to the beach. There's so much potential there but I wasn't impressed at all. It was disappointing. The sand turns into somewhat stinky mud by the time you get to the water line and overall the place looked unkept - some broken picnic tables, overgrown grass, weeds popping all over the nice concrete padded area by the bathrooms. I thought there would be showers, but there is just one outdoor shower good enough for a quick rinse. The bathrooms/shower house at the beach smelled clean (someone even came to clean them while we were there) but overall it was just not nice. The beach just seemed like a place that, in its heyday, would have been so great. Since this review is more about the campsites than the beach, I am not taking the beach into too much consideration. The couple that stays at the site are very nice. They came and introduced themselves to us and gave us a map of the trails and the park. On our way out they have us a hearty wave and asked us to come back soon. The campground was a nice place to camp. We had a great weekend!

It's probably not a coincidence we had the same server both times. She handled our large group on April 22nd with ease. She didn't forget a thing and managed to keep the the tabs organized with no questions. The food was good and the atmosphere and scenery were terrific. My photos only show the outside, but there is a large indoor dining area with a cozy rustic decor and another area with what looked like an indoor/outdoor porch-type room. We have only eaten on the patio/deck. They often have Karoke or live music. The fries and onion rings are really good and my patty melt was also very good.

Hope to have liquor licenses soon. Just some technicalities to take care of for now. We tried a few different things to share. The salad was basic but was fresh and crisp! Great for a summer days lunch. They also serve it with chicken on it! The wings were juicy and tender with just the right amount of spice! Pictured is the peach glazed wings. They also come with celery and ranch (not pictured) I was hungry so missed that. The special for today was the 4 smash burger sliders, with tator tots and a drink for $7.99. You just can't go wrong with a smash burger! And The tots were crispy with a creamy inside. Cooked just right! The waitstaff is very friendly but just a little short on help but All in all they are getting it back together so if you are in the area give them a try!

Six months ago, I discovered this place as a nice getaway with a place to take my little one and experience sand. His first steps on a "beach" were taken here. The sand is clean and free of shells or debris. There are several picnic areas with tables scattered along the water and some with shade provided by the trees. When they reopen, you can get a tour inside to see how the dam was built and works. We didn't get to do that yet. It was a spontaneous trip and later in the day, so next time. On the grounds, they do have a few historic parts displayed such as the retired lock (see photo). It was really neat to see. They have a covered pavilion where you can gather to eat at the picnic tables with family and friends. As the weather is warm today, I thought of this place. Unfortunately, this time we are in dealing with the world pandemic and social distancing ... we have to wait. Everything we saw appeared clean and everywhere was open, but it wasn't crowded since school had started already. So, add this to your list of places to check out. Today's high of 80 degrees would be the perfect day to go! :-(
