While not exactly camera shy, but not exactly comfortable (read: photogenic) in front of the camera, Molly helped my husband and I celebrate the specialness of the end of my pregnancy with an casual home maternity photoshoot and the awe of my son's first few days in a newborn photoshoot. Molly's relaxed demeanor helped us feel relaxed, which materialized into some gorgeous photos that truly captured the essence of these memorable times. As a concept, Molly gets light. In fact she embraces it to create warm and inviting tones that help illustrate a mood of the season. Looking back on my summer and fall shoots, I feel warm and nostalgic, remembering how the light hit and the sun felt on my skin. She helped us position our bodies in flattering angles and found backgrounds that felt like us without looking too "try hard" or deliberate which was really important to me. NOTE: I am not someone who is into posey photos/ costumes...I like when photos look real and natural (but like the best and most flattering version of that). However, I am sure Molly can work with all kinds of requests as she listened closely and has a really intuitive nature, she just gets it. Have I mentioned how amazing she is with babies? As a mother herself, she is gentle, accommodating and so sweet. I felt completely trusting letting her move my little 10 day son into different positions to snap some newborn shots. She's a total pro. 10/10 experience, thank you Molly for helping memorialize these special moments for my family!

Best family photographer in Portland area…read more Kay has been our family photographer for a while now, and I can't see myself going to anyone else. I was a wedding videographer, so I'm picky at finding a good photographer for my family, especially one that works well with kids. The whole process of booking is quick and easy. If you have Instagram, you're able to view her work on her profile and reach out to her through a link provided in her bio. Sometimes, she'll offer some sessions for folks to book, like mini sessions (15 min) and engagement shoots or family shoots. Otherwise, you'll select the type of shoot you want, answer a quick survey of questions (I.e indoors or outdoors), and put down a deposit. Payment is done online so everything is smooth. I highly recommend the mini family shoots if you have young kids. They're 15 minutes long, affordable, and so much fun to do! Kay is SO good with kids. My daughter is very camera shy and usually only lets me snap a photo of her here and there (if I'm lucky), but with Kay, she is completely herself because Kay makes it fun and engaging. Kay is also a mom of 4 young kids :) I was so happy to book our maternity photoshoot with Kay too. I was worried about the timing because our photoshoot would be around the time she gets induced, but she took us and returned our photos in less than a week in addition to 5 or more other clients' sessions before she was due. I wasn't expecting her to go above and beyond like this, and I sincerely wanted to reassure her we could wait longer for our photos to come back. She is absolutely amazing and talented! She's also doing our newborn photos. What you can expect with Kay is a fun photoshoot that is absolutely worth it. She's professional, friendly, and makes you feel comfortable being in front of the camera. She captured my daughter's personality so well. She takes hundreds of photos during your session and returns hundreds back to you via online gallery. Other photographers charge a pretty penny and give you only 10 or so photos back. We're always impressed with Kay and her work. Support her and her family. You will not be disappointed!

She always captures the perfect balance of my daughter's mischief and beauty which is a hard thing to capture when she's running wild through a beautiful park. For us Mamas, these kinds of photos are pure gold and I treasure them. My husband is also a bit of a whiner when it comes to taking family photos but Sara puts him at ease too. We all end up laughing the entire time and rather than some family photo sessions dragging and feeling long and exhausting, ours go by so fast and we have a blast. I'd also like to mention her turnaround on getting the photos back is super fast and she always throws in black and whites for me so we have an amazing mix of color and bw. Every year I send the download link for the photos to my Mom and she insists on writing Sara directly to rave about her amazing work (and my Mom is not easily impressed). I can't recommend Sara enough and look forward to her capturing our family for all the years to come.

Her guidance made me feel so much more comfortable with my camera and helped me understand how to make the photos I captured the best they could be during the editing process. Investing in Alonya's help is one of the best things I've done for myself in years, and I would encourage anyone who loves their camera but feels a bit nervous, hesitant, or confused to just reach out to Alonya already! Since completing our mentorship sessions, I have had the confidence to offer photoshoots to complete strangers! I walked up to a mother and her baby in the park and offered to take photos on the spot. She said yes and loved the pictures I sent her later. And just the other day, I did a photoshoot for a woman and her elderly dog, and she was so appreciative of the experience and the captured memories. Now, I feel more confident than ever about my ability to make a positive impact with my photography. Thank you, Alonya, for all your wisdom and support.
