Highly Recommended Without Hesitation -
It is with pleasure that I recommend Inner Soul Healing & Recovery Solutions as an excellent resource for professional therapy and holistic wellness services. In August of 1992, I had the opportunity to meet Joanne Barian, in a
professional capacity. Joanne was a Master's level student of mine, from the years of August/1992 through 1994,
attending the George Warren Brown School of Social Work at Washington University in St. Louis, Missouri. I was an
Adjunct Professor for the Marriage & Family Therapy Specialization program at Washington University, which Joanne
completed in 1994, as part of the requirement for obtaining the MSW degree w/ a clinical concentration in the field of
Psychotherapy.
I found Joanne to be intelligent, driven, focused, self-motivated, goal-directed, and professional in demeanor. Her
interpersonal and social skills are outstanding, and her planning abilities exceptional. Values and commitments to
serving people at risk are readily apparent in all she undertakes. Joanne is the kind of person one would like to have
on staff, because she anticipates what needs to be done in a quiet manner, with thought, precision, maturity, and
excellent judgment. As part of the Marriage & Family Specialization program, I arranged several role play scenarios,
in which the students had an opportunity to apply what was learned in a practical clinical setting. Joanne
demonstrated clearly and with great anticipation and articulation, her ability to utilize the use of supervision when
necessary, and provide the class with an excellent example of her clinical skills, while reflecting her openness to
learning and constructive criticism.
Perhaps what best highlights the qualities noted in this letter, is her leadership in a student sponsored program at
Washington University, which focused on diversity issues, substance abuse, trauma related issues, sexual
identity/orientation, among others, and the effects on providers in the field. She organized the conference, secured
speakers, enlisted others in mounting the program, and conducted the related coordination, planning and budgeting
to include student body support. The conference was a great success. As a professor, I observed Joanne
throughout the two years, and found her instincts and observations to be spot on, when she offered comments and
insight in the classroom at large, in addition to a smaller group setting. Joanne always appeared to be very confident
and insightful, in addition to being very knowledgeable in the areas of mental health, marriage and family therapy,
and substance abuse.
I have worked in the mental health field for over 40 years, as a Psychotherapist, and have had the opportunity to train
and supervise students and fellow colleaugues. Joanne not only has the blending of educational background and
expertise, along with being credentialed, but she brings compassion, kindness, sensitivity, understanding, insight, and
real world experience to the table as well. All of which demonstrates a powerful combination of both education and
knowledge, and also practical experience, proven to be necessary when developing a rapport with clients. I believe
Joanne represents a therapist who is gifted and talented, w/ great integrity, for whom the future augurs well. Joanne
possesses the ability to perform well in both clinical and administrative work, and would be an asset to any clinic or
organization.
Most Sincerely Yours,
Jean Caine, LCSW, LMFT
