We were in town for one night on our way to Queenstown. We thought that this would be a great place to stay as we wanted to kayak Milford Sound the next day. However - we didn't realize Milford Sound was still a good hour and a half away and we wanted to partake in the Sunrise kayak leaving at 6:30 AM. I think for treks starting later or bus excursions the town would have been a better rest stop - but we had to get up at 3:45 AM to drive to make our adventure.
All that said, the town is beautiful and you can't go wrong. The hotel was quaint and right near the water. Your room doesn't face the water but rather a side road. Also there is more than one hotel with Lakefront in the title - so make sure you stop at the right one.
Staff was happy to help set us up with a night tour of the Glow Worm caves.
You are in walking distance of the center of town and restaurants, shops and a mini-golf.
The room was spacious with a bedroom that you could shut off from the living room. The decor is slightly dated but the overall stay was quite comfy. read more
