Just could not conjure image of me slamming trunk shut . . . So, about 20 minutes into train westbound, I called the MICHIGAN CITY, INDIANA POLICE NON EMERGENCY LINE; they were great. Super professional and did not question my stupid request: to drive by 11th street lot and check to see that car parked did not have trunk open!!!! (potential robbery of not important stuff like old golf clubs); They did this AND called me me back to confirm that the trunk was closed. Just cannot say enough goodness about these fine people. Thank you Michigan City Police Dept.

The officers have been restrained and thoughtful dealing with the individual, extremely skilled at de-escalating the situations, and have gotten them once into involuntary psychiatric treatment. I realize people have bad experiences with CPD but we also need to acknowledge when they provide outstanding services -- and a very difficult job to do.

I had the…read morepleasure of speaking with a number of kind officers, & I even had a great conversation with the Commander. (He has a fantastic sense of humor!) The station itself is new. It is sizable & full of art characteristic of the Bridgeport area. I was greeted by a friendly officer who took the time tell me more about the station, & introduce me to others in the building. As someone who wanted to get more involved in her community, I learned that I can attend monthly CAPS meetings for my particular beat. I was given a sign to put in my window for Neighborhood Watch. Everyone I spoke with was so generous with their time, & were very knowledgeable about the Bridgeport Chicago community. I encourage all my fellow Bridgeport Chicago residents to support the 9th District Police Station! Get involved, meet your neighbors, & meet the officers who keep watch over our lovely community. These men & women are the reason I can feel safe in my neighborhood, enjoy all the local businesses, bicycle on the streets, & spend time safely in my favorite parks.

My father sent me a recording of my car being stolen by 7 men in masks saying call the cops which I did. while on the phone with the dispatcher we located it 2 blocks away after it being gone all night. the responding officers told me just to take it home because the investigators will just keep it for longer and nothing will come from it and told me to go to the 9th to report it in person, which I did. I needed to document the damages to my car and lock/ignition system. January 24th I went to the 9th district to make a report in person. the fat officer (S. Cabrales) in question told me I was probably drunk and parked it somewhere without remembering. mind you I don't drink at all and I had it on video and wanted to show him. he did not want to see, told me there was nothing that could be done, so I left without trying to argue. because of this I was never able to get the justice I needed, didn't know what else to do, and don't even have a paper trail proving it happened. nothing ever came of this, I don't trust the 9th for anything crime related anymore. that was an absolute slap in the face and reinforces my conception that Chicago has the laziest cops in the nation. I only opted to post this now as I'm about to call them for a person parked on the sidewalk today, with no real confidence anything will be done about that either.

Police were…read morecalled after an incident involving an electric bike in which a neighbor was allegedly shoved off the sidewalk and could have been seriously injured. When officers arrived, they seemed completely unsure of how to handle the situation. Honestly, the neighbors appeared more prepared to address what happened than the officers who responded. A report was ultimately made, but the entire response left many of us with very little confidence in this district. I was also extremely disturbed by my interaction with dispatch, including being asked whether I was Black or white. I would like an explanation as to why that question was relevant to the call. Several neighbors witnessed what happened tonight, and there are going to be a lot of questions at the next CAPS meeting. Residents deserve to feel that when they call the police about an assault or dangerous behavior in their neighborhood, the situation will be taken seriously and handled professionally. Tonight did not leave us with that impression.
