Lake Chaubunagungamaug (which is a short-cut for those who are dislexic) is a quite small inland lake near Webster. It is known as having the longest place name in the United States, but it's not clear if the name is made up (like lore is, often in these parts) or if it has any kind of Indian significance, besides not having any room to be spelled out on maps. Folks bring canoes here to ride around in circles all day long. There are 2-3 marinas, a playground and a few thick sanded beach access points. The lake has paid-access (you had to pay to get there on Memorial Day). A booth conveniently blocked any view of the lake specifically for that reason: an pricy lake fee! YAY! Chargoggagoggmanchauggagoggchaubunagunga-maugg lake has a long name, and that's the main feature. There's not much wind. The lake is circled in by concrete retaining walls, highways, shelters, old pot-holed roads and aqueduct embankments. The food attractions were closed in the afternoon. Some people walked circles on a track. To me, I have seen much more picturesque, beautiful and more attractive lakes, traveling around the globe. This lake is in a strange location - where no visitors go.. for good reason: Webster is a round up, run-down, blighted no-go! This lake did not leave me 'agog'. #YankeesUniverse #NewYorkYankees Rebel review: 3

    Welcome to Lake Chargoggagoggmanchauggagoggchaubunagungamaugg

The longest place name in all of North America. It's Lake Chargoggagoggmanchauggagoggchaubunagungamaugg, or to the locals, Lake Webster. A small lake in an out of the way place, Southern Massachusetts near the corner of Connecticut and Rhode Island. Shaped a bit like a figure eight with two peninsulas that almost cut the lake in half, the name is from an Algonquin language and is humorously translated as: "You fish on your side, I'll fish on my side, and nobody fish in the middle." Cold and frozen at the beginning of February, the entrance I visited has a large parking lot and a large walking loop. Even in this weather, two women were getting their exercise.

Ever see a word with 45 letters and fourteen syllables? Behold the awesomeness of Lake Chargoggagoggmanchauggagoggchaubunagungamaugg. Legend has it that the English translation of that massive Nipmuc Indian word is "You fish on your side of the lake; I'll fish on my side and no one will fish in the middle" It covers about 1,270 acres, near the Connecticut-Massachusetts border, and some folks prefer the easier to pronounce "Webster Lake". Five stars easy --just for that tongue twisting name

The beach is basically almost all grass so I noticed a lot of people with massive tent, set ups and large swaths of area that they would claim, lol. As far as the pond goes, it is one of the cleanest and clearest I have ever seen. It's nice that you can bring floats from home, as well as goggles. The food was pretty decent! And was reasonably priced. Make sure you wear shoes or sandals on the deck of the concession stand because it gets really hot! The only reason I took off a star? Its…read morelocated on a lake with public boat ramp access across the street. 99% of the campers are seasonal and most have a sense of pride in their community. Unfortunately the management of the campground is where it falls short in so many areas. There is a laundry room on site that has old and outdated machines which often means they aren't in working order. It is not until you go to check you clothes in the dryer do you discover they are still wet. The electric service is in serious need of an upgrade to 50 watt service. There are a lot of new campers on the property which draw a lot more power (think air conditioning in every unit ) but the power goes out on a regular occurrence in the summer. You are tricked into thinking its 50 amp service until you check with other campers to learn they also have had their converters blown. This results in loss of electronics n appliances along with the food in your fridge n freezer ( imagine this happening during the week n coming on the weekend to rotten food). The property recently completed a major sewer overhaul to include the addition of a leach field. You can often times find the owner responding to the red alarms going off in the evening. Those campers close to the leach field complain of strong septic smells and are told it's their connections at their individual trailers. Wait until the summer when daily usage increases with kids out of school. Speaking of kids , I hope you are not seeking activities as there are very little planned events for the kiddos. There used to be an activity person to coordinate so many events that drew a high level of participation. The decrease in activities for both adults and children lead to campers doing their own thing at their sites. If there was an planned event at the pavilion and there was low attendance, the manager drives around in a golf cart with a fog horn harassing people to attend. The same manager will park her golf cart with the lights off at the edge of your site starting at 10:30. This is done as a scare tactic in enforcement of a 11pm curfew. While there is a store on site that sells a variety of things to include alcohol , I recommend checking the expiration dates as often times it's old inventory from the previous year. If and when you bring any matters to the attention of the manager , you are met with a sigh of disbelief and an argument. Most establishments look for feedback to improve the camper experience, not this place. The staff at the campground consists of the owner , a manager and a few min wage workers at the store. They would benefit from hiring more staff with someone to run the office , someone to run activities , someone for security and someone for maintenance and someone reliable in the store. One would think with the steep site fees (over 7k on the water ) and the very little return on investment to the campers , that this would be common sense.

After a brief safety video and briefing, we were given our rafting kit, loaded on buses, and brought up river to the raft slip, this was about a 30 minute trip north west. The raft trip ended across the street from where we started. An easy exit, we got out of the boat, returned our kit, and walked across the road to watch the video, and purchase souvenir photographs. We had an excellent day on the river during our 10 mile trip. My 14 year old son and I did the Zoar Gap trip which took most of the day with an hour break for lunch at a nice riverside picnic ground in the mountains. You can bring your own food( appropriately packaged) if you would like. They store it in a water proof bag and stow it on the raft. If there is even a hint of rain or you just don't want to get completely soaked, bring a three season jacket or rain coat. Also, you will be out on a river dress accordingly. NO open toed shoes! This includes flip- flops. You can rent shoes and wetsuits. If you have any medical issues like allergic reactions etc. I would either bring your own Epi Pen kit and medications with you, and stow it in the water proof bag, or possibly think about finding a less isolated outdoor experience. Be warned, white water rafting can be physically strenuous. The only issue I had was the lunch that was provided. Not that it was bad, it was well packaged and pre-made( not to order). If you have food allergies or don't like mayonnaise bring your own food. Zoar Outdoor is not really able to accommodate food allergies or pickey eaters. Mayonnaise was on every sandwich. I don't know why. They could just have provided packets on the side but they there were none available. My son hates mayonnaise so he only ate the chips, pickle, and cookies provided which got him through the remainder of the trip but not exactly a great lunch. One man we were with had a dairy allergy. I'm pretty sure he was not able to eat any of the food. I'm not sure why he didn't make sure a head of time if he could eat the food.I wish I had known the sandwiches had mayonnaise on them a head of time. Not a huge deal, we got over it. The trip was super fun! I would love to go again and will definitely choose Zoar Outdoor again.

There wasn't many…read morereviews on the camping section of Indian ranch when we were looking so I thought writing one would be beneficial to others. We have a 40ft fifth wheel for reference. I wasn't able to make reservations online but after calling I was able to get a site for two nights to take my daughters to a show. There wasn't much info online about the campground, what it offers, and the rules and what not so we went into this pretty blind. I did ask on phone if it was full hookups, as that is important to us and they said all sites are full hookups up which is great! There is no "check in" time which was nice to not have to aim for a certain time but I did call and check and let them know an estimated arrival time. Upon arrival, they had a staff member on a golf cart waiting outside office and brought us to our site. He was very nice, friendly, and answered any questions I had while my husband was parking the camper. The sites are tight!!! That being said we have a large camper with slides on both sides. Thankfully no campers were on either side of us so it didn't take him long to get into the spot. Our site specifically was mixed with rocks and grass, was fine just slim. We did have some shade on the afternoon from the trees to the back of camper. There's a gas station with a subway and honey dew walking distance away which was nice to get a coffee at in the morning and grab anything I forgot to pack. This campground is mostly seasonal, I think the man said they had maybe 13? On rotation for weekenders. The campers that are there are very friendly, mostly older without kids but very nice and didn't seem to mind ours. Some campers seemed a little run down, but to each their own, there was a good mix. Seemed pretty quiet at night time and wasn't anyone overly loud. The next day we went to a show, it was really hot, like 90 degrees. They had a "cooling station" I didn't check it out but they did mention it. The pavilion is also right on the lake and a few kids went in the water cause it was really how in the sun. We did general admission as we've never been before and it's like bleachers on the sides and first come first serve. There's also an area in the way back that has picnic tables. The staff were nice down there as well. The slushy machines weren't freezing cause it was too hot, but that's 100% reasonable. Other than that we just got water. We tried the restaurant one night, it was ok. The bar was busy as they were having a boat cruise that night. The restaurant section was like 50% full. The chicken tenders were really good, burgers looked good and my kids like them. The view was pretty even with indoor seating. We made reservations and were sat promptly. Our server however was ehhh. Took about 10+ minutes to greet us and take order. After that food came out in reasonable time and was good. We maybe saw server once about checking on us but maybe she herself was busy? Check came out around $90 for two adults and three kids with no alcohol. Reasonable and fine, most staff were friendly, ours just seemed annoyed by us. We didn't check out the pool at all as we only stayed for a few days. The kids took a dip in the lake after the show when everyone left. We were the only ones down there. A family member who has friends seasonal there told me after the fact that we were supposed to use the beach? Unsure on this is it's true or not but staff saw us down there and didn't say anything to us and left us alone. There were picnic tables down there with umbrellas which were nice and at this time of the day there was a little breeze. Will attach photos of our site and the gas station across from us a few sites away. Some may not like that but we did. Overall I wouldn't book here for a weekend away but we would def book if we were going to another show at the venue. Never went to the bathrooms but the bathroom in restaurant was clean and nice.
