For quite some years, we have been regular guests in Gianbattista Rossi's former restaurant La Fortuna in Hannover. Now, the son of a "gastronomical family" in Stresa at the world renowned lake Lago Maggiore (Italy) has founded his own place in the center of Pattensen, a nice village with a rich heritage of wooden buildings, south of the city of Hannover. Hence, the name "Ristorante & Pizzeria Lago Maggiore" was just a natural choice.
It is Sunday at lunch time, and we are lucky having a reservation. Shortly after 12, the cosy place is fully occupied. Our table neighbors also came from the city of Hannover. It pays to take the little trip, they say.
The menu card is really comprehensive and offers the whole range of classic Italian dishes, at very fair prices.Checking for the specials of the day (inserted in the front part of the menu or personally explained by the patron in "Italian English") is always my first recommendation. Today, we find a choice of premium Mediterranean or Pacific fish, either simply grilled (with lots of garlic, if so desired) or enhanced by a tasty cream sauce with fresh herbs, and potatoes/vegetables al dente, naturalmente. I treat myself with a big, square, juicy fillet of beef, grilled to perfection, with buttered pasta - a heavenly treat, indeed. Cassata ice cream is our dessert, stylishly served with fresh fruit and vanilla sauce on a black plate. A true piece of art...yummy...
Patrone Gianbattista is always present to care for the wellbeing of every guest.Italian is spoken in the kitchen. The wine selection is featuring Italian premium red wines at reasonable prices. Ask the boss ! behind the house, a nice den is awaiting the summer. From the adjacent farmhouse, a curious black horse looks out of the stable and across the fence. Country feeling included.
We agree: This is one of our favorite Italian restaurants. The full program at an affordable price. Satisfaction guaranteed.
