If there was a website that is the opposite of Yelp-- for instance, a website that tells you shops and places to avoid or that actually should be shut down because they are legitimately dangerous for your health-- this place would be on that list.
While on a trip to Paris, I bought 70 Euros worth of foie gras to take back with me to California thinking that the store looked nice and the foie looked like it was a nice quality. When I got back and opened these cans, each and every one of them were moldy with a dark tint of gray on top of the foie. Having done some canning before and with a little knowledge of what happens when something is not properly canned, my boyfriend and I definitely knew this would not end up well had we eaten it. Every single can we opened looked like this -- all 70 Euros worth. We ended up throwing it all away for our own safety.
I get it if you want to scam some tourist out of a few bucks. I even get it if you want to scam a tourist out of 70 Euros. But to sell food that could end up giving someone botulism would get you sued here in the US.
Please don't give these people your money or time of day. There is a better and more reputable foie gras shop on Ile Saint-Louis that actually produces humane foie. That was the shop I was looking for and had mistaken it for this place. Lafitte-- you truly give the French a bad name. read more
