Only a short walk from Messe Essen, and located at the Martinstrasse U11 stop, the Hotel Arosa is a nice hotel. The door key/lock was a little tricky to figure out, and sometimes it would take me 3 or 4 minutes to get into my room.
My single was slightly larger than a cruise ship cabin, but was sufficient for my needs: a bed, a bathroom, a place to set my stuff down/hang up clothes, and a desk for my laptop. The wifi in the room was decent, though there were a few times when it didn't seem to work well. No A/C in the room, which meant during the heat, the room was really stuffy and hot, and the solution was to open the windows, which unfortunately let a lot of street noise in (I was on 2, and the saturday night drunk walk was pretty noisy at 3am). Curtains didn't really black out the light.
The breakfast buffet was awesome. Full spread of hot food, cold food, fruit, cheese, etc. Plus it was air conditioned, and had friendly staff. Front desk staff was also helpful.
If i was coming to a convention at Messe Essen, i'd be fine staying here again, especially if i got a renovated room!
