We were unawares of this and had gone there looking for some gourmet snacks to bring home to relatives. The bottom floor holds the liquors while the upstairs holds the wines. Very large selection of liquors (even Japanese surprisingly). In a corner, in the back (on the bottom floor) there is a very small selection of cheeses & prosciutto if you have guests over and don't have time to make another stop to grab some snacks to go with your drinks. In the front by the cashier, there is also a small selection of cookies, biscuits, and canned goods (sardines, olives, etc). We bought 2 bottles of wine that were reasonably priced to make sangria and it turned out great! Definitely stop by if you need some wine/liquors.

Their wines are made using Xarello, Parellada, Macabeo, Tempranillo, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot grapes. As well as quaffable (and very affordable) table and regional quality wines, they have a wide selection of their own and others' cavas. As ever with this part of Spain, you're best sticking to reds, rosé or cavas. They also make and sell high quality wine vinegars and olive oils, and the shop sells other high quality regional foods, such as cheeses, preserves, herbs and turron, the local almond-based nougat, other Spanish wines, spirits and sherries. There's an extensive on-line catalogue. There's a small and a decent restaurant, and regular wine-tasting evenings, which come with a short talk as well as the tasting for about EUR15 a person (Catalan and Spanish only). Staff are friendly, although the service is very laid back - the sense of time is rather slower than at home, so remember you are on holiday...

Their tour that includes a train/trolley ride through the underground caves is so fun, impressive, and all in all, very informative. The grounds of the winery are gorgeous, after the tour we hung out in the garden, where we had lunch and more cava. All staff was very nice and attentive the guests. I felt that the pricing of the tour and wine were reasonable - I remember paying $18-20 for a bottle of delicious Cava. Nothing like the Sonoma/Napa prices! Heck, even lunch was fairly priced, plus you get beautiful views of the mountains and the winery. FYI: there are other wineries to explore in this area. also, the Monserrat monestary was only a 45 minute drive from Cavas Codorniu.

First, you'll need to call a taxi upon arrival at the train station in town. We were not prepared for this and it was a headache, so just make sure you have that number in your phone ahead of time. The train and taxi are well worth the trip once you get there. Codorniu is a cava lover's oasis. Not only is the property picturesque and historic, but the staff is incredibly friendly and knowledgeable. After touring the stunning grounds, you'll get to take an underground tram through the property. Eventually, you'll arrive at a tasting room where you can try several of their cavas. It's basically an adult playground and I can guarantee you won't regret your visit!
