I was instantly impressed in our pre-wedding meeting, as she adeptly navigated all of the opinions and ideas in the room. The day of the wedding she was a delight to work with. She kept everything in order and on schedule, but in a way where it felt like she was enjoying the day along with us. And the photos... WOW! I love Sally. Just love her. I met her several years ago through a mutual friend. She has since taken professional photos of myself and coworkers for my "day job", shot my wedding (marriage didn't work out, but boy were the photo's beautiful), took some family photos for my parent's 50th, and now has taken some photos for use on a new website I am creating for my retirement gig - my profile yelp picture was taken by Sally. Like the other reviewers, I do not particularly enjoy having my photo taken, but Sally always makes it fun and the photos that she gets as a result of her ability to make her subjects feel at ease are phenomenal. She also has great, creative ideas and is willing to do almost anything to get the perfect shot - from trudging out onto a frozen lake Minnetonka as mentioned by one reviewer, to showing up at my farm ready and willing to climb into pig pens to take photos of piglets. (Well, maybe not so "ready" - the sparkly flip flops had to go...But once I had her in some waders, she was unstoppable). I can and do recommend her highly to anyone looking for a photographer. I would give 10 stars if I could! I really can't speak highly enough about Sally. My husband and I weren't super "into" choosing our vendors for the wedding. My sister had gotten married the previous year and I figured that she had done the legwork, so I could just sign on with everyone she used. GOOD DECISION! I really got to know Sally during our engagement session. She somehow turned 2 mildly photogenic and kind of timid people into 2 gorgeous hams for the camera. She knows exactly how to bring out your personality and really lets you shine in your photos. What I loved about her immediately was her willingness to make the photos about us (ie when I suggested the frozen Lake Minnetonka in the end of December, rather than shiver and suggest her studio, she scouted out the entire city of Excelsior for the best snow drifts and abandoned properties on which to shoot!) The first thing she did was "force" us onto the frozen lake covered in 2 feet of snow. Needless to say, the photos were incredible. Then came the main event. As I got gussied up for the wedding with my family and friends, it felt like I had another friend there in Sally. She was so sweet to have around, but quickly fell into photographer mode and got every great shot imaginable - all without us even noticing. The wedding photos turned out to be incredible. Even during portraits, the vibe was informal and very "us." Sally is more like a best friend who happens to have a sweet camera and documents every moment perfectly than a traditional wedding photographer. Can't say enough good things about La Vie Photography and owner, Sally. Not only is she super cool and down-to-earth, but she's extremely organized and professional. Her chill personality helped warm up my fiance (who is not into taking photos), which was a huge stress reliever for me. The whole day was seamless and easy, all because Sally was prompt and knew exactly what the entire day/timeline looked like. There's something pretty amazing about having someone guiding you along your big day so you don't have to worry and also getting kick-ass photos out of it. I am the mother of the bride! We LOVED working with Sally and LaVie. The photos (engagement and wedding) were absolutely amazing and something that we can have and hold forever. Sally took the time to sit down with us to find out what the kids wanted. She had wonderful suggestions and ideas. For example..she suggested the kids wait for summer for the engagement photos since when they first got engaged it was end of winter and everything was still brown. The wedding was in the fall so there wouldn't be much green and color at that time either. This way, the kids were able to get more variety in the package of photos. We had A LOT of family portraits that we requested and Sally and her assistant were very organized and kept it as stress free as possible. The wedding photos captured the magic of the day and the love between my daughter and her new husband. I have no idea how we will pick out just a few photos, since they are all so stunning. read more
