It is located in the Plaza Mayor. Pretty much the best location in the city. It has copious outdoor seating during warm weather. My 13 year old daughter and I dined there for lunch twice this week. The menu del Dia is around 11 Euros during the workweek. The is a notch above the typical bar Menu del Dia. On the first day, I started with artichoke hearts flecked with bits of jamon serrano. My main course was a very well prepared swordfish a la plancha with EVOO, garlic and parsley. It was a thick, meaty slab of fish--flavorful and not overcooked. Dessert was a...well, it was a cake whose name I don't remember...but good. On our second lunch, I started with a generous tomato and tuna salad. Big wedges of fresh tomato, adorned with a pile of classic Spanish canned tuna (which, FYI, is light years better than the canned tuna in the US) and dressed with a light sherry vinegar and EVOO dressing. My daughter had spaghetti Bolognese that she devoured. My second course was trout a la plancha--simple, yet fresh...moist meat and crispy skin. We happened to pass by on Halloween afternoon, and Dublin House hosted a fantastic party in the Plaza Mayor--with make-up artists, musicians, candy and lots of un. This is what I like most about Dublin House. The atmosphere--and the staff-- are delightfully gregarious and eccentric. The interior was extensively decorated for Halloween-- with skeletons playing cards at a poker table, bloody handprints on the walls and windows, another skeleton sitting in a chair at the front door. The place screams "Fun!" Looking beyond the seasonal decor, it is clear that great care was taken in decorating the interior. The place is adorned with sofas, and artfully arranged fabrics--this is not your typical bar to watch a bullfight. The owners and staff have a keen, artistic flair. Dublin House is great. Go there, drink a glass of wine, enjoy are great quality tapa, and stay for lunch.

While I missed a Micky D's trip while I was in Spain, I was able to keep up my Starbucks record...but I was able to check off another tradition - visit a local brewery in every country I visit. Well, I was actually able to visit two while in Spain. YOLO. Came in the Fabrica Maravillas after spotting it on Yelp - since it was a quick (relatively) walk from our hotel. I was on a mission to connect with my good bud - Mr. Yelp Madrid, Lolo R - and this was where we decided to meet up to have a beer and catch up. Super friendly bartender that explained each beer for us and recommended the one I went with - The Dark Ale. It was fantastic. Sweet notes, perfectly carbonated and not too heavy. Their glasses are in 3 sizes - small, medium, large. The Medium is a good size as it is. 2 mediums and a small was only 10€. I also got a bottle that was €4 (50cl). It was hoppy and went PERFECT with a fried seafood plate I had it with when I got back home. Small tap room - as are all places in Spain, but they are brewing up some good stuff! Check them out! Side note - Shout out to the guy in there that was also from Fort Lauderdale and overheard me talking and immediately hollered out "FUNKY BUDDHA!" haha super nice guy, hope you find this review dude. Always nice to know my home team brewery is that well known.

I visited on a rainy Thursday night so there wasn't a large crowd and I grabbed an open seat at the end of the bar. A friendly gentleman gave me a menu and asked what I was interested in. When I mentioned the Old Fashioned, he advised that it was an Amaro-based version without the usual bourbon/whiskey spirit. I noticed a Brooklyn and commented that I sometimes made those at home. Very politely he noted that if I was making them in the US, it wasn't with Amer Picon, which isn't available in the US. He's right. So an actual, real Brooklyn it would be! I thoroughly enjoyed the Brooklyn. I also enjoyed some brief conversation with the bartender who was very good. The kind who uses the spoon or straw to taste each drink to ensure it was made properly. As I was paying my bill and mentioning to the gentleman who initially greeted me that I wanted to bring my business partners here later in the week, he wrote his phone number on a business card and told me to call him in advance as the bar got very busy when it wasn't raining. Turns out, this friendly man is Alberto the owner! Guess I didn't do quite as much research as I could have! I regret we weren't able to make a second visit to 1862 Dry Bar on this particular trip, but it is going to be my first stop next time I'm back in Madrid. Great vibe, excellent staff and a classy and friendly owner.
