These are dried peppers flsh fried andcrisp. This was accompanied by a bowl of thick vegatable soup. The beefsteak was excellent, and was only the second round of beef cooked as steak in three weeks of travel here. It was very special, and this beef has been grass feed and and grazed on the local mountain side. To finish, we had some popular deserts and an amora mads from Chrithmum( rock samphire, or sea fennel). We were serenaded by Dean Martin, Frank Sinatra, and there friends. They do not have a printed menu, and what is offered is from the fresh catch of the day. We decided to share a single portion of ante pasta, though something was gained in translation, as enough food for six people arrived. There were only three of us. Good thing we did not order first and second dishes (pasta then fish or meat). The food arrived with a squid and artichoke dish and a plate of octopus. This was followed with a dish of whole, small octopus in a sauce. A grilled swordfish was excellent. Two plates of the freshest mussels ever arrived (we had asked for mussels). We drank a bottle of white Basilicata Ballaggio. They include a carne option in the second dish, by the way. We concluded with a sample of house made amare and a rosolio. On our way out, the owner showed us a picture of a rare catch that day kf a prized fish, and he explained their all fresh approach. What can one say. Of course, late eating seams to be a pattern we cannot escape. La Torre is on the central piazza, and we did call ahead, because settling in means a glass of wine on the terrace, and it was getting later. Our meal consisted of baked anchovies, a dish of baked gnocchi with a red sauce and very stringy cheese. Next came three fried zuchini blossoms (four of us were eating). We had a traditional pasta dish with cruschi. We had then a mixed fish plate with a white fish and three crustations (large shrimp and very small lobster-like creature). The white fish was slightly undercooked. We also had a plate of grilled vegatables, mushrooms, peppers, broccoli, and peppers.. We shared a liter of house red that was quite passable. Overall, the meal was good and were treated very well by the staff. We were the last group to leave. Eat well, tip well (tippng not expected here, but eating well certainly is).
